With the role of creating a canopy for tea trees to grow, the early spring harvest is considered by tea growers in Ky Anh district (Ha Tinh) to be the most important harvest of the year.
These days, on the tea hills of the communes in the upper Ky Anh district, taking advantage of favorable weather, people are focusing on harvesting the first tea crop of the year.
People in the upper communes of Ky Anh district are excited to enter the new tea harvest season.
With more than 20 sao of tea in harvest season, Ms. Pham Thi Lieu (Trung Son village, Ky Trung commune) has to hire 5-7 workers to focus on harvesting.
Ms. Lieu said: "This harvest involves both harvesting and canopy formation, so my family pays great attention to hiring tea pickers. Workers must be experienced to not only ensure the harvest progress but also help the trees not be damaged and create a canopy for good growth."
Ms. Pham Thi Lieu discussed with leaders of Ky Trung commune about tea picking techniques.
Every year, after deducting all expenses, 20 sao of tea brings Mrs. Lieu’s family a revenue of over 130 million VND. That is why Mrs. Lieu is very excited about her family’s decision to change crops.
Recently, tea growers in Ky Anh district have become more secure as they have switched to joint production under VietGap process with Tea Factory 12/9. Accordingly, the output market for raw tea products is increasingly expanding.
Tea trees have created regular jobs and sustainable income for local people over the years.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Ky Trung Commune People's Committee said: "With the sustainable efficiency that tea trees bring, more and more households in Ky Trung are boldly expanding their tea growing areas and investing properly, bringing in high income. The first harvest of the year plays a role in creating a canopy for tea trees to grow well in the coming time. Although the yield is not high, the commune still reminds people to invest effort and techniques to ensure productivity and output for tea trees throughout the year."
12/9 Tea Enterprise purchases fresh tea buds for people.
Proper picking techniques increase productivity, product quality and create good growing conditions for tea plants, so staff of the 12/9 Tea Enterprise also focus on instructing and reminding people.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duc - Technical Manager, 12/9 Tea Enterprise said: "With the characteristics of tea trees, each bud is born from a leaf axil, many leaves have many buds, so picking buds and leaving leaves are closely related to tea yield. For the spring crop (the first tea picking of the year), it is necessary to leave 1 fish leaf (a leaf that has not fully opened near the bud) + 2 real leaves, creating an even canopy".
Not only does the enterprise properly implement the principles, management procedures and operation of VietGap processes in raw tea production, it also actively supports people to feel secure in production. Thereby, increasing income and maintaining, developing the area, stabilizing the supply of raw materials for the enterprise's processing.
