On the afternoon of June 29, the Ministry of Education and Training held a press conference to provide information about the 2023 High School Graduation Exam.

One issue that the press is concerned about is the Literature exam, where the questions in the social argumentation section are similar to the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi. Meanwhile, the language used in the literature argumentation section is similar to the mock exam in Nghe An province.

Regarding questions related to the exam, on behalf of the exam committee, Professor Pham Hong Ha said that the exam basically maintains a stable structure, the exam is within the 12th grade curriculum, there are no reduced sections, sections that exceed the curriculum, and the exam has good differentiation.

According to Professor Pham Hong Ha, this year, the Ministry of Education and Training used matching software in creating exam questions. The process was applied to 15 subjects.

Regarding the Literature subject, Professor Pham Hong Ha confirmed that the text was the same as the exam in Nghe An. However, the text was the same but the questions were different.

“In the 12th grade literature program, there are 17 literary works, of which 15 are used. It is mandatory that there is no other material than the 15 works. If each province or city has a mock test, it is understandable that the official exam questions are the same as the materials. The command means the questions are different” – Professor Pham Hong Ha commented.

Regarding the Hanoi exam, Professor Pham Hong Ha said that the reading comprehension part and the questions are different. One side asks about “emotional balance” – while the 10th grade exam is about mastering emotions.

Also related to the opinion that the current exam questions have a phenomenon of model essays, which do not stimulate students' creativity. Mr. Ha said that the reading comprehension and writing sections.

The reading comprehension section is allowed to use non-mandatory materials from the textbook. In the reading comprehension section, the test-making team always wants to focus on current events and educational issues.

Meanwhile, for the writing part, from 2023 to 2024 we will finish the 2006 program.

For the 2018 program, there will be a higher level of openness. There is no requirement that the literary materials in the essay topics must be in the textbooks. At present, due to the regulations of the 2006 program, this cannot be implemented.

Discussing more about the exam, Mr. Ha also said that during the exam process from the beginning of June while the Hanoi exam took place later. Therefore, the person who created the exam did not know about the Hanoi 10th grade Literature exam.

Meanwhile, the mock test of Nghe An issued also did not have data to compare, so it could not be detected.

“In general, the questions ensured differentiation and did not overlap with previous exams. This is very important,” Professor Pham Hong Ha emphasized.
