Veteran Tran Van Ut Het (Hamlet 4, Tac Van commune) told about his life and his job for many years of taking passengers across the river but his economy was still lacking.

For many years, his family of 7 members, including his wife, 4 children and 1 grandchild, lived together in a makeshift house, which leaked in the rainy season and was hot in the dry season. His house was built along the Ca Mau - Bac Lieu canal, and over time the floor became low, and when the tide rose, the furniture was scattered. Faced with the family's difficulties, the Association of War Veterans in Tac Van commune considered proposing the Association of War Veterans in Ca Mau city and the People's Committee of Tac Van commune to support 50 million VND to build a Comrades' house. Currently, Mr. Het's Comrades' house is more than 50% complete, and will be handed over before the rainy season.

The Association of War Veterans of Tac Van commune organized a visit and inspected the construction progress of the Comrades' house of Mr. Tran Van Ut Het (second from right).

Mr. Tran Van Ut Het emotionally shared: “I thank the authorities at all levels and the veterans at all levels for helping my family build the Comrades' House. This is a very meaningful gift for my family. From now on, my whole family will no longer worry when the tide rises or there are thunderstorms.”

Sharing the joy of hundreds of war veterans living in a new, spacious house, war veteran Ngo Van Xuyen (72 years old, Hamlet 2, Tac Van commune) although living in a Comrades' house built many years ago, still feels the same happiness.

Mr. Ngo Van Xuyen said: “Only in difficult times can we fully appreciate the love of our comrades and compatriots. Many times, when I was in the spacious house, I thought I was dreaming. Without the help of the Veterans Association at all levels, my wife and I would not have been able to build a solid house like this.”

Mr. Xuyen's family's previous house was made of temporary trees and leaves along the canal. Because it had not been repaired for a long time, the house leaned towards the canal, and anyone passing by was worried because the house could collapse into the water at any time. Faced with the family's difficulties, the Association of War Veterans of Tac Van Commune considered proposing that the Association of War Veterans of Ca Mau City support 30 million VND so that his family could have the conditions to rebuild a new brick house.

Mr. Thai Tu Luc, Chairman of the Association of War Veterans of Tac Van Commune, said: “In recent years, the movement to build houses for war veterans with especially difficult housing circumstances has always been actively implemented by the Association of War Veterans of the Commune, achieving many results. What is worth mentioning here is that the sense of mutual support among members is very high, when raising funds, 100% of members support. From 2023 to now, the Association of War Veterans of the Commune has proposed to support the construction of 2 Comrades' houses for 2 members with especially difficult housing circumstances."

Mr. Tran Hop Nhi, Chairman of the Ward 9 Veterans Association, said: “The whole ward has 149 members. In recent years, the Ward Veterans Association has enthusiastically contributed to the fund to build Teammate houses to help members have stable housing. In 2025, the Ward Veterans Association proposed that the City Veterans Association survey and repair the corrugated iron roof for member Huynh Thanh Binh, Hamlet 4. Up to this point, there are no more members in the ward who are poor or near-poor households. The majority have a basically stable life.”

"Ca Mau City has more than 2,700 War Veterans Association members. Promoting the tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers and responding to the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - No one is left behind", every year, the War Veterans Association at all levels of the city mobilizes members to join hands to contribute to the fund with a contribution of 50,000 VND/member/year. From there, each newly built house is supported with 45 million VND, each repaired house is supported with 20 million VND. Ensuring that newly built or repaired houses have hard roofs, hard floors, hard frames, and toilets", said Mr. Dang Van Khoi, Chairman of the War Veterans Association of Ca Mau City.

According to statistics from the Association of War Veterans in Ca Mau City, over the past 5 years, war veterans have contributed nearly 762 million VND to the fund for building Comrades' houses and 110 million VND from the People's Committees of communes and wards, building 22 Comrades' houses. In addition, the association at all levels has mobilized many resources to build 1 billion 131 million VND to build new and repair 28 houses for members.

The “Comradely Love” houses have helped many war veterans in Ca Mau City settle down, stabilize their lives, and develop their economy. Here, in addition to their material value, each newly built or repaired house also has great spiritual significance, contributing to enhancing the comradely love of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.
