According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem, statistics show that the export turnover of wood and wood products in the first half of 2025 increased by 8.9% compared to the same period in 2024. This is considered a solid basis for expecting a favorable business year for the entire export industry in general and the wood and furniture sector in particular.
Notably, in the first 6 months of 2025, the United States continued to be the largest market, accounting for more than 55% of Vietnam's total wood export turnover.
Although appreciating the potential and purchasing power of this market, Mr. Liem noted that relying too much on a single market still poses many risks in the face of fluctuations in international trade.
“Vietnamese wood enterprises need to continue to diversify their markets. In addition to maintaining and developing in the United States, promoting exports to other potential markets such as Japan, China, and the EU is a necessary strategy to minimize risks and ensure sustainable development,” Mr. Liem emphasized.

Sharing the same view on the need for innovation, Mr. Tran Quoc Manh - Vice President of the Vietnam Handicraft Export Association shared that the Vietnamese furniture industry must aim for the Net Zero goal with new, environmentally friendly products. This is not only an inevitable trend but also a strict requirement from many major export markets such as the EU, the US, Japan or the Middle East.
“In addition to the factor of diverse designs, most import markets require products to be green and sustainable. That is a long-term competitive advantage,” Mr. Manh analyzed.
In addition, Mr. Manh also recommended that wood industry enterprises need to accelerate digitalization and restructure operations to improve competitiveness and reduce production costs, especially in the context of decreasing export orders and unit prices.
In 2024, Vietnam's wood and wood products export turnover will reach 15.89 billion USD. From this result, Vietnam's wood and forestry industry aims to reach 18 billion USD by 2025, affirming its position in the key export sectors of the economy .
From August 26 to 29, the 3rd Vietnam ASEAN International Furniture and Handicraft Fair (VIFA ASEAN 2025) will take place in Ho Chi Minh City with the theme "The convergence of Southeast Asian furniture quintessence". The event is expected to gather more than 200 businesses from provinces and cities in the country and more than 13 countries and territories, along with more than 10,000 visitors, including nearly 2,500 international visitors.
