Comrade Vu Van Hieu was the first Secretary of the Quang Ninh Mining Zone Party Committee, who devoted his entire life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation; he was a shining example of infinite loyalty to the communist ideal. The construction and restoration of monuments to Comrade Vu Van Hieu shows the gratitude of the people of Quang Ninh, and at the same time creates red addresses to educate about revolutionary traditions.
On April 8, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee listened to and gave opinions on the plan to renovate and upgrade the Monument of the People's Armed Forces Hero, Martyr Vu Van Hieu, the first Secretary of the Special Zone Party Committee of Quang Ninh Mining Area. The current monument of comrade Vu Van Hieu was started at the end of September 2016 on an area of 8,300m2, and was completed on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Mining Area Workers - Tradition of the Coal Industry on November 12 (1936-2016).
The monument is built in the central area of Lan Be Park complex, the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs, the Provincial Youth and Children's Cultural Palace, located in the block of cultural and tourist works from the historical relic of Bai Chay Ferry, Bai Tho Mountain, Quang Ninh Museum, Provincial Library, Planning Palace, Provincial Fair and Exhibition..., creating favorable conditions for people and tourists to visit.
The portrait statue of comrade Vu Van Hieu was cast in pure red copper, weighing 1.7 tons, and was made by Thang Long Fine Arts and Trade Company Limited. On the right side of the monument's facade are two large blocks of coal brought from the Deo Nai coal mine, where President Ho Chi Minh visited on March 30, 1959. According to the explanation of sculptor Pham Sinh, the author of the work, the monument of comrade Vu Van Hieu is made in the form of a bust, about 6-7m high (including the platform and pedestal), made of bronze and has a platform simulating the shape of a coal seam. The statue of comrade Vu Van Hieu in a pose shows a strong determination to maintain the spirit, fighting spirit, and steadfastness with the ideals he has pursued.
Previously, in 1990, a monument to Comrade Vu Van Hieu was built in Ha Tu ward. After the expansion of National Highway 18, the monument was moved and placed in the grounds of the Workers' Cultural House of Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company, where he directly worked as a miner in the proletarianization movement. This project is still being cared for and regularly restored.
The construction of the monument of comrade Vu Van Hieu has been marked with a plaque showing the deep gratitude and appreciation of the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Ninh towards comrade Vu Van Hieu, with the meaning of educating the tradition for the younger generation, continuing to promote the spirit of "Discipline and Unity", building the Coal industry to develop and Quang Ninh province to become more and more prosperous.
With the goal of building this place into a "red address" to educate the young generation about historical and cultural traditions, as well as a new and attractive tourist destination, the Standing Committee of the Ha Long City Party Committee has directed the City People's Committee to select a consulting unit to develop a plan to renovate and upgrade the works around the monument of comrade Vu Van Hieu. Ha Long City has requested the consulting units to carefully study historical documents related to the revolutionary activities of comrade Vu Van Hieu to create and build a monument of comrade Vu Van Hieu in accordance with his role as the first Secretary of the Hon Gai Special Zone Party Committee; at the same time, design the surrounding landscape to ensure service for future tourism activities.
The plan to renovate and upgrade the works around the monument of comrade Vu Van Hieu will continue to seek public opinion before being officially approved and implemented by the authorities.
