The disease made his mother like a child, and Hoan's life was cramped, torn between love and responsibility. When his health declined, Hoan was forced to make a heartbreaking choice: to "abandon" his mother to his brother, who he had never met, living in Korea. This decision became the turning point that opened up a humorous and tearful journey for the mother and son, at the same time raising profound questions about the limits of filial piety and family love.
Director Mo Hong-jin, a Korean, shared that he was attracted by Vietnamese culture, where family affection is always put first. Therefore, the film not only has a strong local color but also shows universal human values. "I don't think about national borders when making films. What's important is human emotions - something that anyone can sympathize with," the director shared.
"Mang me di bo" is also a rare collaborative film in which the Vietnamese side is involved from the script, creative to production stages. According to producer Phan Gia Nhat Linh, both sides share responsibilities and decisions equally, creating a work that is both Korean in its narrative style and imbued with Vietnamese character in every detail.
In addition to the emotional main characters, the film also features two comedians Lam Vy Da and Vinh Rau, creating a light, humorous highlight that balances the nuances. With serious investment and a profound message about family love, “Mang Me Di Bo” promises to become one of the most notable films this summer. The film opens from August 1 in theaters nationwide.
