Premier League champions Man City are set to complete the signing of Claudio Echeverri, who is considered the "new Messi" of Argentine football, in a deal worth more than €20 million, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Claudio Echeverri is only 17 years old and currently plays for River Plate, has represented Argentina at the U17 World Cup (scoring 5 goals), and has caught the eye of big European teams such as Real Madrid, Barca and PSG.
However, Man City are the club that are getting closer to getting the signature of Claudio Echeverri.
The source said that the deal between the treble-winning club last season and the player is nearing the “final stages” with a fee worth more than €20 million.
Man City also carried out a similar process with the 17-year-old star, signing Julian Alvarez from River Plate in January 2022. Specifically, after completing the contract, coach Pep Guardiola's team still let Claudio Echeverri stay at the Argentine club, before coming to Man City in the summer of next year.
Man City have a reputation for being "a step ahead" in attracting young talent to the Etihad Stadium. Smart shopping is one of the key factors that helps the Man City half reap success.
Coach Pep Guardiola's team has dominated the Premier League for many years and won the 5th treble in 2023 (Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, European Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup).
In the summer, Man City had some changes in their squad, saying goodbye to key players - captain Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer and Aymeric Laporte.
But Man City have brought in Mateo Kovacic, Jeremy Doku and Josko Gvadiol to fill the void, helping coach Pep Guardiola still have a very strong squad.
