On the morning of October 1, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Principal of Luong Minh Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Luong Minh Commune, Tuong Duong District, Nghe An Province said that due to the impact of flash floods and landslides, all students had to take a day off this morning to focus on cleaning up mud.

Accordingly, on the evening of September 30, there was a prolonged heavy rain in the district. At around 10:20 p.m., water from the stream suddenly poured down and flooded the school. In just about 20 minutes, the rushing water rose, causing the entire classroom to be flooded more than 1 meter deep.
At that time, there were a number of teachers and nearly 300 boarding students in the school dormitory. When the flash floods were detected, the teachers in the school settled the students' accommodation and together moved the furniture in the classrooms to higher ground. However, because the floodwaters rose so quickly, most of the school supplies could not be moved in time.

Luckily, the boarding house is located on high ground and was not flooded, so the students were not affected. However, almost all the books and school supplies in the classroom were severely damaged by water and mud.
The floodwaters have now receded, leaving behind a layer of mud 10 to 20cm thick. Teachers, students and parents are working hard to clean up the mud so that teaching and learning can resume soon.
Mr. Vi Dinh Phuc - Chairman of the People's Committee of Luong Minh Commune - said that the prolonged heavy rain and flash floods that occurred on the evening of September 30 also caused severe landslides in many places in this commune. On the night of September 30, the People's Committee of Luong Minh Commune had to evacuate nearly 80 people in Dua village (Luong Minh commune) out of the danger zone.

In addition, many houses were flooded with rocks and soil, at risk of collapsing at any time, so the locality is focusing all its forces to help people evacuate to safety.
Immediately after receiving the information, the working group of Tuong Duong district approached the area where flash floods occurred to direct. Flash floods caused many houses to be submerged in nearly 1 meter of mud. "We are stuck in the village because the road has collapsed at both ends, we cannot get out yet," said Mr. Dinh Hong Vinh, Chairman of Tuong Duong District People's Committee.
