Eurasian Economic Union transport integration

The heads of government of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan) have just approved the expansion of the list of priority integrated infrastructure projects in transport at the meeting of the EAEU Intergovernmental Council in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

According to Belarusian news agency BelTA, the Eurasian Economic Commission (ECC) of the EAEU considers the integration of infrastructure projects as a priority, including large-scale projects to modernize and upgrade road and rail transport with a focus on developing Eurasian transport corridors. The projects are designed to ensure enhanced transport connectivity of member states, promote transit transport and import and export.

According to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Russia is actively developing the North-South transport corridor, expanding transport capabilities in the eastern direction, to China, Southeast Asia and Asia- Pacific countries, as well as enhancing transport capabilities in the northwest.
