On March 21, at Chu Lai International Port, a plaque was affixed to recognize the 50,000-ton Port project. This is one of eight typical emulation projects to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Nam Province (March 24, 1975 - March 24, 2025) and the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee (March 28, 1930 - March 28, 2025).

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Le Van Dung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; leaders of Departments, Branches of Quang Nam province, Nui Thanh district and leaders of THILOGI.

The 50,000-ton port project is a 365m downstream extension, connecting to port No. 1, increasing the total length of Chu Lai port to 836m, the depth before the wharf reaches minus 11.6m, capable of receiving ships with a capacity of up to 50,000 tons. The project has a total investment of VND 1,590 billion, and will be put into operation from September 2024. In addition, the project is implemented on the basis of decisions and planning of the Government and the People's Committee of Quang Nam province to develop the port commensurate with the scale and output of cargo exploitation, becoming an important trading hub and logistics center of the Central region, the Central Highlands, connecting Southern Laos and Northern Cambodia.

At the ceremony, Mr. Phan Van Ky - Director of Chu Lai International Seaport Company said that THILOGI is committed to continue investing, developing infrastructure and improving service quality at the port, meeting the increasing demand for transportation and import and export of goods of businesses in the region.

Announcing the decision to recognize the project, Mr. Thieu Viet Dung - Deputy Head of the Provincial Economic Zones and Industrial Zones Management Board emphasized: "The project closely follows the province's marine economic development goals and new trends in the maritime industry. This is also an important foundation to gradually turn Chu Lai International Port into a specialized container port, a domestic and international cargo transit center, contributing to optimizing the efficiency of logistics activities and attracting investment to Quang Nam province".

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Nam Hung said: "The 50,000-ton port project plays an important role in the planning of the development of Vietnam's seaport system. According to the planning, Chu Lai port belongs to group 3 seaports, and is one of the important links in the logistics supply chain of the Central and Central Highlands regions. The expansion of the port is not only in line with the sustainable development strategy of the region, but also contributes to improving competitiveness, promoting international trade and connecting with major ports in ASEAN."

“The development of the port will attract many new investment projects, creating momentum to promote supporting industries, import-export and sea tourism. This is an important step forward, making Quang Nam become the leading logistics center in the Central region,” the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee added.
