Jose Mourinho and his assistants repeatedly insulted referee Anthony Taylor when Roma lost to Sevilla in the Europa League final last season. Not stopping there, the Portuguese coach also harshly criticized Taylor in the press conference room and waited for the referee in the parking lot to curse.

The footage shows Mourinho even using very obscene words to attack Anthony Taylor. In this match, the English referee issued 14 yellow cards - the most in Europa League history and added nearly 30 minutes of extra time.

Mourinho’s harsh reaction did not surprise fans, because the coach nicknamed “The Special One” has often criticized referees in the past. Notably, the Roma coach knew in advance that he would face a heavy penalty from UEFA but still publicly insulted Anthony Taylor.

After 3 weeks of investigation, UEFA officially punished Mourinho. As expected by fans, the 60-year-old Portuguese coach had to pay a heavy price for his bad behavior. Specifically, he was banned by UEFA from directing 4 matches in European Cups next season.

Roma finished 6th in Serie A last season and will continue to play in the Europa League next season. Thus, Mourinho will not be able to coach Roma in 4/6 group stage matches if he continues to stay at this club.

UEFA's punishment also makes it difficult for Mourinho to move to another club in Europe. Mourinho was once rumored to be with PSG, but in the end, the French club decided to choose the more gentle coach Luis Enrique.

Alongside Mourinho, Roma were also punished by UEFA for their fans “setting off fireworks, throwing objects, causing damage and crowd disturbances”. Roma were fined 55,000 euros and banned from selling tickets for their next Europa League away match.
