(PLVN) - The groundbreaking ceremony of the T2 Passenger Terminal Construction Project - Dong Hoi Airport (Quang Binh) with a designed capacity of 3 million passengers/year is very necessary to meet transportation needs and improve the quality of passenger services.

On April 19, in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province, Vietnam Airports Corporation - JSC (ACV) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the T2 Passenger Terminal Construction Project - Dong Hoi Airport with a total investment of more than VND 1,750 billion from ACV capital.

Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Secretary of Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang and representatives of the People's Council and People's Committee of this province.

Dong Hoi Airport currently has only one passenger terminal, T1, with a designed capacity of 500,000 passengers per year. In recent years, the number of passengers passing through the airport has exceeded its capacity.

The growth rate of passenger transport through this airport is also higher than the average of the Vietnamese airport system. It is expected that by the end of 2025, the passenger transport output through Dong Hoi Airport will reach nearly 1 million passengers.

For the above reasons, the commencement of the T2 Passenger Terminal Construction Project is essential to meet transportation needs and improve the quality of passenger services.

The project “Construction of Passenger Terminal T2” is a component project of the project “Construction of Passenger Terminal T2 and expansion of aircraft parking lot - Dong Hoi Airport”. This is a group B project invested by ACV, built on an area of ​​106,308 m2, including the passenger terminal and auxiliary works.

Specifically, the project includes the following main items: Passenger Terminal T2 is deployed on an area of ​​nearly 12,000m2, with a scale of 2 floors combined with a mezzanine with 2 separate departure and arrival elevations; Roads, internal port traffic roads and car parks are built on an area of ​​over 74,000m2; Greenery and landscape items with a total area of ​​6,549m2.

Passenger Terminal T2 is designed with a capacity of 3 million domestic passengers/year (1,200 passengers/peak hour) and has an expansion plan to increase capacity to 5 million passengers/year when needed (after 2030).

This construction aims to create infrastructure synchronization, in accordance with the detailed planning of Dong Hoi Airport for the period up to 2020, with a vision to 2030, and the overall planning for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, ACV affirmed: With the responsibility as the manager and investor of the T2 Passenger Terminal project, ACV Corporation is committed to focusing all resources, resolutely implementing the project in accordance with the provisions of law, ensuring construction quality, security, labor safety, environmental sanitation and completing the project on schedule.
