Two Ukrainian P-18 systems destroyed
On March 27, SF reported that the Russian military successfully destroyed two P-18 airborne surveillance and early warning radars of Kiev forces. Russian sources have released two videos recording the moment of destruction. Both radars were hit by Russian precision-guided missiles.
The P-18 is a 2D surveillance and early warning radar developed by the Soviet Union. It has a detection range of up to 360 km.
Ukraine inherited a large number of P-18 radars after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s and received even more from Eastern European countries that joined NATO after Russia began its special military operation more than two years ago.
To this day, the P-18, along with other Soviet-made long-range radars such as the 36D6, is the cornerstone of Ukraine's early warning and air defense network.
Over the past months, the Russian military has intensified its suppression of Ukrainian air defenses, damaging or destroying numerous radar, electronic warfare, and air defense systems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces throughout the area of special military operations. This month alone, the Ukrainian military has lost four P-18 radars.
Russian air defense shoots down multiple drones and missiles
Also on March 27, Russian air defense forces successfully intercepted several suicide drones and more than ten missiles launched by Kiev forces into Russia's Belgorod region.
In two separate statements issued late on March 26, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a total of four Ukrainian drones had been shot down by Russian air defenses over Belgorod. The Russian Defense Ministry did not report any casualties or material damage.
Early on March 27, in another announcement, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Kiev forces attempted to attack the Belgorod region with Czech-made RM-70 Vampire missiles. At least 18 missiles were intercepted.
Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Vladimirovich said in a post on his official Telegram channel that a Ukrainian missile strike had injured one civilian. He also reported damage to several residential buildings and vehicles in the area due to recent drone and missile strikes by Kiev forces.
The Kiev government has stepped up drone and missile attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks, even sending forces and mercenaries to carry out a number of cross-border raids. Most of these attacks have targeted Belgorod.
The Russian military has also responded to these attacks by launching large-scale strikes against numerous military targets and related infrastructure in Ukraine.
On March 27, Geran-1/2 suicide drones were launched from Russia’s Kursk region to attack Kharkiv, Sumy, and the capital Kiev. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have shot down 10 of the 13 drones used in the attack. However, material damage was still reported in the target areas.
