The Director of the Department of Construction Investment Management (Ministry of Transport) has just issued a decision: Order to urgently construct the new Phong Chau bridge investment project, on National Highway 32C spanning Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts (Phu Tho province).
The decision clearly stated the issuance of an emergency construction order to promptly handle the collapse of the old Phong Chau bridge, quickly resolve traffic disruptions, and overcome the consequences of storms and floods.
The construction of a transport network aims to soon connect the area, creating favorable conditions for people to move between the two banks of the river, connecting Tam Nong district with Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province, and neighboring localities. This will support socio-economic development and ensure security and defense in the area.
Thang Long Project Management Board was assigned to manage and implement the construction of the new Phong Chau bridge.
Construction time is from the fourth quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2025 with an estimated cost of about VND 800 billion from the central budget reserve in 2024.
The Ministry of Transport requested the Thang Long Project Management Board to select qualified units with capacity for construction activities to implement according to current regulations, develop a detailed plan to implement the project according to emergency orders with a completion schedule in 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister.
Earlier, at around 10am on September 9, Phong Chau bridge connecting Lam Thao and Tam Nong districts collapsed, causing two spans of the bridge to fall into the Red River. The incident caused 10 vehicles (1 truck, 2 tractor-trailers, 6 motorbikes, 1 electric motorbike) to fall into the river, leaving 8 people missing.
