Pirate Islands in Tien Hai Commune, An Giang Province is an emerging local tourist destination in recent years.

With its wild beauty, unique seafood resources and eco-tourism services, this place attracts more than 100,000 visitors each year, including domestic and foreign tourists to visit and relax.

Interesting experiences on the island

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, from Can Tho city, said that taking advantage of the remaining summer vacation days of her children, her family organized a 3-day trip to Pirate Island. This was the first time Ms. Binh and her relatives set foot on this mysterious place, both to learn about the land called "Pirates" and to experience and immerse themselves in the nature of the sea and islands.

During their stay, her family rented a small boat to cruise around the islands of the Pirate archipelago, exploring the amazing caves and cliffs.

Members also participate in sup rowing, fishing, squid fishing, and catching seafood such as fish, snails, clams, oysters...

What people love most is to fish, catch snails and clams and cook them right on the boat or on a small deserted island. Relaxing and gathering together is an unforgettable feeling.

Not only that, the local people here are very hospitable, friendly and sociable. They enthusiastically guide the group on how to fish and catch seafood, and are also willing to lend spices and cooking utensils to help the group have memorable experiences, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh shared.

In 2018, when she first set foot on the island, Ms. Hoa Ry realized that the conditions for sleeping, living and entertainment were still limited, such as no electricity, lack of clean water, makeshift rooms... but in this 2025 Summer trip, everything has changed significantly, more complete and convenient.

“Before going, I searched online and booked a mini house for only 500,000 VND/day and night, with clean and airy rooms. On the island, visitors can rent motorbikes or use the 24/7 electric car service, making travel more convenient and comfortable,” said Ms. Hoa Ry.

Returning to Pirate Island this time, the family was very satisfied and felt the trip was very meaningful. In particular, the activity that the whole family enjoyed the most was taking a boat tour around the islands in the Pirate archipelago, combined with stopping at some beaches along the island to swim, fish, catch squid, catch snails, clams, and mussels, and then prepare the food themselves right on the island or on the boat. Thanks to that, the whole family was able to enjoy the delicious taste of the seafood that had just been caught, Ms. Hoa Ry shared more.

Not only that, her family can also buy local specialties such as crab, sea prawn, mackerel, and squid to bring home and process at the mini house, enjoying a variety of fresh seafood while saving money.

In addition to the experiential activities, her family visited and took photos at the sovereignty marker located on the coast, along the road from the port turning right to Radar Station 625. This marker was built by the Republic of Vietnam Navy in 1958, at the same time as a number of other sovereignty markers in Truong Sa.

Community tourism development

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ngoc, a resident of Hon Tre Lon Island (Tien Hai Commune), said that in recent years, thanks to tourism development, local people have had more opportunities to earn a living: driving motorbike taxis, renting vehicles, trading, transporting tourists, organizing fishing and squid fishing tours...

Thanks to that, people's income increases, contributing to promoting the local economy. Therefore, people here always behave civilly, politely, and hospitable to create a good impression in the eyes of tourists.

Mr. Mai Quoc Thang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tien Hai Commune (An Giang Province), said that the Pirate archipelago includes 14 large and small floating islands with names such as Hon Keo Ngua, Hon Kien Vang, Hon Tre Lon, Hon Tre Vinh, Hon Gui, Hon U, Hon Giang, Hon Cho Ro, Hon Duoc, Hon Bo Dap, Hon Doi Moi...

Located in the middle of the ocean, far from the mainland, to reach Hon Tre Lon Island (Hon Doc) - the largest and most populous island of the Pirate archipelago, also the administrative center of Tien Hai island commune, people and tourists take about 1 hour by boat.

Currently, there are at least four passenger boats from Ha Tien to the island and vice versa every day. On days with nice weather and calm seas, many tourist boats from travel companies also stop at the islands to take visitors. On average, the Pirate Islands welcome about 100,000 visitors each year.

Currently, the entire Tien Hai island commune has more than 500 households, 100 of which raise fish in cages, with more than 160 cages, the main animals are grouper, cobia, barramundi, and bream... Cage fish farming is developing and gradually replacing fishing, becoming the main occupation of the islanders. Because, farming not only brings economic efficiency, but also contributes to the preservation of the sea while natural resources are gradually depleted.

“To improve people's lives, increase income, and join hands in developing the island economy, in recent years, especially since the end of 2018, the Pirate Islands have been recognized as a local tourist area, and the government has encouraged people to take advantage of natural resources to develop sea tourism according to the community tourism model. With this type of tourism, fishermen on the island can serve the entertainment and culinary needs of tourists with their own profession, such as using fishing boats, net boats, or letting tourists go down to fish cages to catch fish and squid by hand and enjoy dishes and parties right on the sea,” Mr. Mai Quoc Thang informed./.
