Spain Barca Vice President Eduard Romeu revealed that Joao Felix only receives a weekly salary of more than 8,000 USD, a 97.3% reduction compared to the 300,000 USD level at Atletico Madrid.
Felix joined Atletico for $142 million in the summer of 2019 and earned $300,000 a week. Chelsea will have to pay the entire amount when borrowing the Portuguese striker for the second half of the 2022-2023 season.
But when he came to Barca this summer, Felix accepted a reduction in his seasonal salary to $422,000, or only about $8,000 per week.
"It's true, Felix received only $422,000 to play for Barca. This is a case of a player who made a lot of effort to get to a new club. It's nice to see Felix playing well at Barca, even though he probably hasn't reached his best form at Atletico yet," Romeu told Catalan newspaper L'Ésportiu on October 12.

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo in September, Felix admitted to taking a significant pay cut to join Barca, but did not reveal a specific figure. "I needed a change," the 23-year-old striker explained his decision. "I needed to go to a club where I could play my style of play, and as I said, Barca was the ideal destination. Everything is going well and I have to work hard to have the joy of playing again."
But according to Catalunya Radio , Felix was paid just $8,000 a week during his first spell at Barca. The club later agreed to increase his salary tenfold, and Felix will still receive the full $4.22 million when his current contract expires in the summer of 2022. The two sides agreed to adjust the salary after Barca's recent financial situation improved. La Liga also approved Felix's new salary.
Felix joined Barca on loan with no option to buy, and will return to Atletico in the summer of 2024. He has not been bad, scoring three goals and providing three assists in eight games in all competitions, including six in La Liga and two in the Champions League. According to Goal , Barca will have to spend at least $85 million if they want to buy the Portuguese striker from the 2024-2025 season.
Felix was sent off on his debut for Chelsea last season, scoring just four goals in 20 games and not being bought outright. He had also failed to live up to expectations at Atletico, scoring 34 and assisting 18 in 131 games in all competitions.
