Hoi An develops reading culture in the community

Recently, at the Xuan My cultural house, Tan An ward, Thanh Hoa - Hoi An Library coordinated to launch a community bookshelf. On this occasion, many books and newspapers were donated by Thanh Hoa - Hoi An Library and associations and unions of Tan An ward to the community bookshelf to serve readers in the block.

“With this reading spot, we can entertain ourselves, learn more information in various fields, and grasp the policies and laws of the Party and State,” said Mr. Tran Muoi in Xuan My block, Tan An ward.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nhi - Secretary of the Xuan My block Party cell, Tan An ward said that to promote the community bookcase, the block will assign the management to organizations and assign people to open the door according to the schedule from 8:00 to 10:30 on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday every week to serve the people.

In Hoi An City, recently, Thanh Hoa - Hoi An Library on Nguyen Truong To Street has become a familiar address for many readers.

This library currently has more than 47,000 copies of books with more than 20,000 titles, open to readers 6 days a week, including Saturday and Sunday. In 2023 alone, Thanh Hoa - Hoi An Library served more than 172,000 readers.

Also at the library, many meaningful and interesting activities are regularly organized. Some of the activities include exploring the library together, learning about Hoi An's relics through books, screening documentary films about Hoi An's history and culture, propaganda contests, book introductions, spring newspaper festivals, giving away reader cards, etc. Every month, the library organizes a monthly rotation and donation of books, newspapers, and magazines to local reading spots.

Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Cam - Director of Hoi An City Culture, Information and Communication Center said that in the city, there are also many individuals and community groups with passion and love for books who have organized and participated in many book-related activities.

Thereby also contributing to spreading the passion for reading, developing reading culture in the community as well as building a learning society in the city.

“We are testing the “book street” model in the old quarter and have initially received positive responses from residents, students and tourists. In the coming time, we will continue to develop this model and spread it to other localities in the city,” said Ms. Cam.
