Love doing charity work
In early September 2024, as the 2024-2025 school year approached, Do Bao Nam made a meaningful decision to spend 22 million VND - the amount he had saved from his study rewards, lucky money and pocket money to donate to the Dong Quan Commune Education Promotion Fund, Dong Hung District, Thai Binh Province. Specifically, he donated 10 million VND to Dong Linh Primary School, 10 million VND to the Dong An Village Education Promotion Fund and 2 million VND to the Do Family Education Promotion Fund.
"I want to give a small gift to the students with the hope that they will always strive to excel and achieve high academic results," said Do Bao Nam.
She shared that she had the idea of donating a scholarship to a local scholarship fund for quite a while. However, when she was about to enter high school, she had just saved enough to do this and was very happy because her charity plan received support and companionship from her father.
The reason why he chose Dong Quan commune to do charity work, Bao Nam said, is that it is his paternal hometown. This place is associated with the childhood of his father, uncles and aunts. Every time he returns to his hometown for the summer vacation and meets the children, he feels sorry for them because this place is still difficult, the students have to suffer from deprivation and that urges him to do more good things for them.
Previously, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024, with the support of units and the Parents' Committee, Do Bao Nam and students of class 9G0 Newton successfully organized a 0 VND Market, presenting 400 0 VND gift vouchers to primary and secondary school students in Dong Quan commune, Dong Hung district, Thai Binh province. Along with that, Nam and his friends also presented 50 cash gifts (300,000 VND/gift) to the elderly in Dong An village, Dong Quan commune, with a total amount of nearly 150 million VND.
For Bao Nam, “The Zero-Dong Tet Market” is truly a touching story, a memory he can never forget. Participating in the Tet market, giving love, but what he and his friends received in return was extremely great and precious, which was gratitude and the spirit of “giving is forever”.
Sharing about his son's volunteer activities, Mr. Do Chi Cuong, Bao Nam's father, said: Born in Thai Binh, memories of the time of poverty, the love for people passed down from his grandmother always made him think that he had to do something, even if it was small, to help others. Every year, he carries out 10-12 volunteer programs targeting 2 groups: students and the elderly in his hometown. Last year, during his trip to Truong Sa, he decided to give gifts to families living in Truong Sa and scholarships and math software to children.
“I am very happy that Bao Nam also continues that humanitarian and benevolent spirit. Ever since he was little, whenever he received an award or lucky money, Nam often told his father that he would give it to disadvantaged children. Since then, he has done many good programs and deeds. I always support his ideas and volunteer activities,” said Mr. Cuong.
Love to learn and research
Bao Nam's outstanding characteristics are his love of learning, his self-discipline and his seriousness in studying. He studied all subjects equally but excelled in Math and English. He was the only candidate to achieve a perfect score (15/15) in the Math exam at a famous secondary school in Hanoi. In grade 9, with great efforts in studying, Bao Nam excellently won first prize in Math - excellent student exam of Bac Tu Liem district, third prize in Math - excellent student exam of city level.
In the 10th grade high school entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year, Nam was admitted to three prestigious specialized schools: Natural Science Specialized School, Pedagogical University Specialized School, and Son Tay Specialized School. However, with a comprehensive development orientation, he decided to continue to stick with Newton School - the place that has given him the best conditions to develop both knowledge and personality.
Along with studying in class and taking excellent student exams, Nam is also passionate about learning new activities and new applications in life. Recently, Nam and his group of friends participated in the "Mathematical Modeling" contest - a prestigious contest organized by the University of Natural Sciences in collaboration with Hanoi University of Science and Technology. With the theme "Application of mathematical modeling in medical operations", Nam's group named DMN (the members' initials) won the third prize.
Not stopping there, Bao Nam also joined the Mobile Apps group to develop the app “My Red Journal – Menstrual cycle tracking” with the support of the team of doctors from the Central Obstetrics Hospital and DCA Vietnam Research. The app had an impressive launch ceremony at Hanoi Medical University. After winning the first prize for scientific research in English, the app has become a useful product for girls in puberty.
In particular, Nam was also awarded a full scholarship for the Information Technology course worth 45 million VND by the Institute of Information Technology and Communications. This is an opportunity for him to further hone his specialized skills in the IT field, towards an open and potential future.
Commenting on her student, Ms. Vu Thi Thu Huong, homeroom teacher of class 10G0 at Newton Secondary School - High School, proudly said that Bao Nam always radiates positive energy to those around him. In addition to his impressive academic achievements, he makes his teachers and friends admire him for doing many good deeds and having a deep understanding of the value of sharing and spreading love.
With a solid foundation of knowledge, always being humble, learning with the support from teachers, family and friends, Do Bao Nam will certainly have solid steps on the journey of conquering knowledge; at the same time continue to spread many beautiful human values to the community.
