According to artist Nguyen Hoa, an abstract painting can be difficult to understand, but it needs to evoke emotions at first sight. Only then will the viewer stay and ponder over the work.

Lasting from March 29 to April 12, the exhibition “Open 'Feelings'” by artist Nguyen Hoa at MONG Art is a destination for audiences interested in abstract art.

"Open 'feelings'" is Nguyen Hoa's first solo exhibition, featuring 50 oil paintings in the abstract expressionist and lyrical abstraction styles, reflecting the author's inner world from inspirations of beauty, nature, poetry, and music in everyday life.

MONG Art space representative commented that Nguyen Hoa's painting style is bold, characterized by strong lines and liberal and free emotions, marking a new name in the contemporary art forum.

Unlike realism and expressionism, paintings in this genre often do not have a specific subject or phenomenon, so they are more difficult to perceive.

Nguyen Hoa shows how to view an abstract painting from the audience’s perspective. According to him, viewers need to be emotionally aroused the first time they encounter the painting. That is the factor that keeps them engaged with the work, leading them to delve deeper into dissecting their personal experiences and explaining the feelings they have.

“Each person who comes to the exhibition has different emotions and experiences. Regardless of the artist’s emotional content, the painting needs to be beautiful and eye-catching to make a first impression, through color, composition... anything that makes them moved and curious, interested. But this is also the vibration of each person. Some people find this painting impressive, some people are moved by another, or not.

If I put a dramatic, conflicting mood into the painting, I will use strong and decisive lines. Or if it is romantic or joyful, the lines will be more light and gentle," he shared.

Ms. Ho Hoai - an art lover - believes that the name of the work also plays an important role. "The name of the painting often states the main emotion of the work, helping me understand better the personal feelings I am having," she commented.

There are many ways to define a good abstract work. Master of Fine Arts, British curator - Tammy Woodrow believes that it is the ability to concretize a vague, unclear emotion. The news page of Spark Gallery (USA) believes that a good work should create new experiences through the personality and emotions of the individual...

Nguyen Hoa was born in 1974 and graduated from the Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts. He worked in the field of design and organizing art programs before entering the painting game.

As a new name, the artist shares his desire to create a personal artistic mark, as well as contribute to the general flow of contemporary art in Vietnam through abstract paintings.
