Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí30/11/2023

Thai and Chinese players got into a brawl right on the field.

After the match in the AFC Champions League, players of two teams Buriram United (Thailand) and Zhejiang (Zhejiang, China) rushed into each other to fight, creating an extremely horrifying scene. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is investigating this incident. It is likely that both teams (especially the host Zhejiang) may face very heavy penalties.

The 163 (China) newspaper reported the brawl. They said that Buriram United initiated the brawl. Besides, the hot heads of the two teams pushed the incident too far.

The Chinese newspaper commented: "Buriram United's number 11 player (defender Dion Cools) raised his thumb to the ground and provoked the Zhejiang team. Zhejiang's reserve players were upset and rushed over to make things clear.

And then, things started to go haywire. Suddenly, Buriram United's number 10 player (Ramil Sheydayev) rushed forward, grabbed a Zhejiang player by the neck and threw him to the ground. This action angered the entire Zhejiang team. The two teams got into a melee."

Sina (China) also accused the Thai players of provocation. The newspaper wrote: "Many Zhejiang players were beaten. The players ran out to stop their teammates, but Buriram United took action first. That caused the fight to spread and get out of control."

Similarly, Sohu newspaper pointed out: "A Zhejiang player was surrounded by many players from the visiting team Buriram United. Although the Chinese player tried to avoid it, a member of Buriram United struck first. After that, the conflict between the two teams began to escalate."

Also according to Sohu, Russian striker Ramil Sheydayev, who was "beaten up" by the entire Zhejiang team, choked Dong Yu. This made the entire Zhejiang team unable to sit still and decided to "take revenge".

It is worth mentioning that after the match, Ramil Sheydayev went online to challenge his Chinese opponent. He wrote: "I'm still here. Please give me your address."

Hupu newspaper commented: "We are no longer unfamiliar with Thailand's "martial arts" football. In May, U22 Thailand also experienced a brawl with U22 Indonesia. In which, the Thai side also initiated it. As a result, 5 members of U22 Thailand were punished by the AFC. They deserve to receive additional punishments."

Meanwhile, Buriram United FC has not made any comments regarding the brawl. Thairath newspaper accused the Chinese player of provoking before threatening to "deal with" Leon James. That caused Buriram United to attack to... protect their teammate.

In general, the press of both countries still defends the players. Fans are just waiting for the conclusion of the AFC to know the real cause of this incident. In any case, the image of the two football countries of Thailand and China has been seriously affected.
