US House of Representatives bans employees from using Microsoft's AI assistant

“ The Microsoft Copilot application has been identified by the Office of Cybersecurity as a risk to users because of the risk of data leakage to cloud services without House approval ,” Axios quoted House administrative director Catherine Szpindor as saying.

Meanwhile, a Microsoft representative said that they recognize that “ government users have higher data security requirements,” and the company has announced a roadmap for AI tools like Copilot to meet federal government compliance and security requirements by the end of this year.

US lawmakers are now considering potential risks to the use of AI in federal agencies, as well as measures to ensure personal privacy and fair treatment.

Last year, two US senators introduced a bill that would ban the use of AI to create false descriptions in political advertising campaigns during federal elections.

As for Microsoft, the company is in talks with OpenAI, the startup that owns ChatGPT, to build a data center that could cost up to $100 billion, called “Stargate,” which is expected to be operational in 2028.

The explosion of synthetic AI has led to a surge in demand for next-generation data centers, capable of handling more advanced tasks than traditional ones.

The Information newspaper quoted sources as saying that Microsoft is likely to “approve” the project, which is worth 100 times more than the largest data centers currently in existence. Accordingly, the supercomputer at “Stargate” will be the largest of the server chains these companies will place in the US within the next 6 years.

According to Reuters, “Stargate” is a data center with a “phase five” supercomputer. Meanwhile, Microsoft is developing a smaller “phase four” supercomputer for OpenAI, to be launched in 2026.
