Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are deserted on the first morning of Tet.

Many central streets in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are quiet and peaceful. People wake up early to exercise, meet at the beginning of spring and take souvenir photos.

From 7am, Ta Hien old street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi , is dotted with people wearing Ao Dai taking souvenir photos. This is a familiar address that people in the capital come to during every holiday and Tet.

"My group and I made an appointment before Tet to wear ao dai and take photos in the old town, capturing the moments of the streets," said Ms. Vu Minh Thuy (far right), living in Ba Dinh district.

Many people choose O Quan Chuong relic as the place to record the first images of the new year.

Ngo Gach Street occasionally has people jogging, enjoying the fresh air on the first day of the new year.

Cau Dat Street is decorated with red flags for Tet, but there are few people passing by.

People cycle and jog through the Trang Tien - Hang Bai intersection, usually the busiest place in the capital.

In Ho Chi Minh City , Kenh Te Bridge, one of three main traffic routes from District 7 and Nha Be District to the city center, was deserted this morning, in contrast to the crowded, kilometer-long trafficjams that usually occur on weekdays.

At 8am, the lanes of Nguyen Huu Canh Street, Binh Thanh District, had little traffic, a stark contrast to the usual rush hour traffic. This route connects Thu Duc City, Binh Thanh District with the central area of Ho Chi Minh City.

At some famous landmarks of the city such as Ben Thanh Market, Notre Dame Cathedral (District 1), many people wearing Ao Dai and new clothes come to visit and take pictures. The streets are deserted, without the sound of car horns, creating a peaceful feeling for visitors to enjoy.

Renting a cyclo for 50,000 VND to take souvenir photos in front of the market, Ms. Thuy said she came from Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate Tet to change the atmosphere. "On the morning of the first day, I took photos and then went to the temple to pray for peace," she said.

Mr. Duong Quoc Thai, 46 years old, spent two hours decorating his motorbike in yellow and driving to Ben Thanh market to take pictures for luck. "I put apricot flowers on the motorbike to create a happy feeling for everyone," Mr. Thai said.
