This is one of the noble awards of the French Government established in the early 19th century, under Napoleon I, to honor individuals with great contributions in the fields of education , science, French culture and arts..., in recognition of Professor Nguyen Huu Tu's contributions to the development of French-speaking cooperation in Vietnam and especially French-Vietnamese medical training cooperation.

As Vice Rector in charge of University Training, in charge of the French program at Hanoi Medical University and then Rector of Hanoi Medical University, Mr. Tu has made many contributions in connecting and building exchange programs for training cooperation, student and lecturer exchange with prestigious and long-standing universities and institutes in France such as Sorbonne University, Montpellier Medical University, Aix Marseille Medical University...

Professor Nguyen Huu Tu is the second representative of the Vietnamese medical industry to receive this award, after the late Associate Professor, Dr. Ton That Bach.

According to Ambassador Olivier Brochet, the French Government's award of the Academic Palm Medal to Professor Nguyen Huu Tu honors a person who is both a representative of academic excellence and dedication to medicine, as well as a representative of tirelessly promoting the values of the Francophone community.

Ambassador Olivier Brochet shared some important milestones with Professor Tu’s contributions as a bridge for medical training cooperation between France and Vietnam. One of his most notable achievements was the development of the French-language medical training program at Hanoi Medical University (established in 2005), making this program a successful model. To date, more than 800 French-speaking doctors have graduated and nearly 100 medical graduation theses have been defended in French before an international jury, including Vietnamese and French professors.

Mr. Tu trained as a resident physician (FFI) in Lyon, France since 1994. He then returned to France several times as a physician and clinical lecturer at Henri Mondor Hospital, Créteil and Paris XII University.

At the ceremony, Professor Nguyen Huu Tu also shared that Hanoi Medical University with its 122-year history, whose first President was Dr. Alexandre Yersin, a prominent French scientist and honorary citizen of Vietnam, has always been a historical, vivid and effective symbol of the relationship and medical cooperation between France and Vietnam.

Therefore, he personally deeply understands the importance of the French-Vietnamese cooperation relationship in medicine, and is grateful for what he has received from his French teachers and colleagues, so he realizes his responsibility to future generations for the task of building a solid foundation for the comprehensive cooperation and development of medicine between Vietnam and France.

On this occasion, from the idea of the Embassy of the French Republic in Vietnam and Hanoi Medical University, under the direction of the Minister of Health, with the desire to gather doctors and pharmacists who have studied and practiced in the French Republic from the programs: FFI, later DFMS/A, stagiaire associé, Master, Doctorat ..., to create a community of French-speaking doctors and pharmacists to support and develop medicine in Vietnam, the Club of former doctors and pharmacists studying in the French Republic was launched.
