On September 13, at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Quang Minh commune, Bac Quang district (Ha Giang), ThaiBinh Seed Group coordinated with the Center for Services & Transfer of Science and Technology on Agricultural and Rural Development of Bac Quang district (Ha Giang) to organize a field conference to evaluate the results of the demonstration model of pure rice variety TBR97.

In the 2024 crop season, ThaiBinh Seed Group has deployed a demonstration model to test the TBR97 rice variety in Na Choong field (Quang Minh commune) with an area of ​​5 hectares. So far, the model has given positive results.

Commenting on the results of the TBR97 rice variety model, Ms. Mai Thi Giang - Director of the Center for Services and Transfer of Science and Technology on Agricultural and Rural Development in Bac Quang district said that through the actual monitoring period in the field, it was shown that, although under the same cultivation and care conditions, the purebred rice variety TBR97 demonstrated good resistance to pests and external conditions, with high uniformity.

"In particular, the TBR97 rice variety has a growing period 5 days shorter than the KD18 rice variety, which is very suitable for the local variety structure and crop season. This rice variety also has a low plant height, so its lodging resistance is much better than other rice varieties," Ms. Giang added.

In addition, the TBR97 rice variety has high yield components such as an average density of 49 clumps/m2; effective number of flowers of 8 flowers/clump and the percentage of solid grains per flower reaching 80.28%, the estimated yield is 247kg/sao, higher than the control rice variety KD18 at 47kg/sao.

In particular, according to the report of the Center for Services and Technology Transfer on Agriculture and Forestry in Bac Quang district, after deducting the cost of seeds, fertilizers, and labor, each sao (360m2) of TBR97 rice variety gives a profit of 1,148,000 VND/sao, (equivalent to 31,888,000 VND/ha), not only giving high economic efficiency, TBR97 rice is also very valuable and easy to sell.

One of the households participating in the model, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh (Minh Tam village, Quang Minh commune, Bac Quang district) said that this crop he planted TBR97 rice variety on an area of ​​1,500m². Although his family did not pay much attention to care during the planting process, the yield was still very high. "Up to now, it can be affirmed that TBR97 rice variety is very suitable for local soil conditions," Mr. Binh emphasized.

Unable to hide her joy of a good harvest, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (Tan Thanh village) excitedly shared: "My family has produced many rice varieties, but I find the TBR97 rice variety very outstanding with many advantages such as strong tillering, good resistance to pests and diseases, and very hard rice plants. Besides, the care process is also very easy, the fertilizer rate used is less but the yield still reaches nearly 250kg/sao. Next season, I will definitely expand the planting area of ​​the TBR97 rice variety."

Ms. Huong hopes that ThaiBinh Seed Group will continue to support people in testing the spring crop. At the same time, she requests the People's Committees of districts and communes to put TBR97 rice variety into mass cultivation in the near future to replace the current low-quality rice varieties.

One of the outstanding advantages of TBR97 rice is that it tillers very well, blooms in concentrated clusters; has good weather resistance; is relatively compact and has the ability to withstand intensive farming.

Evaluating the TBR97 rice variety model in Quang Minh commune, most of the visiting delegates commented that the TBR97 rice variety has many characteristics such as upright leaves, compact roots, good panicle drainage, and high field purity. The rice plant tillers in a concentrated manner, is medium-tall and hard. In addition, TBR97 rice has a high milling rate, amylose content of 15.1 - 18.6%, long, clear rice grains, white, soft, rich, moderately delicious rice, and a light aroma.

In particular, to evaluate the actual yield of this variety, the members of the model conducted a trial harvest of 1m2 of area. The results surprised everyone who witnessed them with the weight of fresh rice grains reaching 1,150kg (nearly 80 quintals/ha). This is an impressive number, far superior to the rice varieties currently commonly grown locally and the control rice variety.

Ms. Mai Thi Giang said: The growth and development process of rice plants in the field reflects the genetic sustainability of the variety, and also reflects the variety's ability to react to external conditions.

Therefore, Ms. Giang suggested that ThaiBinh Seed Group continue to coordinate with the Center for Services & Technology Transfer on Agricultural Products in Bac Quang district, support the implementation of demonstration models in the late spring crop in 2025 and the following crops in communes throughout the district, to properly assess the ability to resist pests and diseases, external conditions, productivity and quality of the variety.

At the same time, to ensure that rice plants grow and develop well, with high productivity, quality and economic efficiency, ThaiBinh Seed Group recommends that farmers using TBR97 rice varieties must apply the correct technical process and plant according to the crop schedule.

At the conference, the People's Committees of the communes: Quang Minh, Bang Hanh, Vo Diem, Kim Ngoc, Hung An, Tan Quang, Viet Vinh, Dong Yen, Vinh Phuc, Viet Quang town of Bac Quang district highly appreciated the outstanding advantages of the pure rice variety TBR97, hoping that the rice variety will soon be put into mass production in the following crops, gradually replacing degraded rice varieties with low productivity, thereby reducing production costs, improving economic efficiency, and creating quality rice products.
