In the context of many high-tech industries such as robotics and artificial intelligence attracting with "huge" benchmark scores, another less-known field of study is opening up growing job opportunities.
In recent years, this major has attracted a large number of female students.
Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Nguyen Luan Vu, Head of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, revealed that the wood and furniture industry has an "easy" entry point, open job opportunities, and applies many technologies in the working process. In particular, this industry attracts many female students who are passionate about design and technology.
"The new Ho Chi Minh City after the merger now has more than 5,000 companies in the wood and furniture industry, with annual export value reaching tens of billions of dollars. The demand for engineering personnel is huge but there is a shortage, while the school can only train about 60 graduates each year," said Associate Professor Vu.
Contrary to popular belief, the salary of wood and furniture engineers after graduation is extremely competitive, even higher than many "hot" information technology industries today. It ranges from 10-20 million VND/month for new graduates.
No longer the image of a worker diligently chiseling, wood and furniture engineers work mainly on computers, designing furniture products with specialized software and using high-tech cutting machines (CNC) to automate the production process.

The training program of this major does not stop at knowledge about wood but also deeply integrates knowledge from the faculty of mechanics and interior architecture. In recent years, the wood and furniture industry has gradually affirmed its position as an important socio-economic sector of Vietnam, in which wood and wood products have become the 6th largest export industry in Vietnam.
According to Associate Professor Vu, the benchmark score for this major in the past 3-4 years has always been stable at around 20-21 points for the groups A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English) and D00 (Math, Literature, English). This is the ideal score for candidates with average academic ability, not too outstanding but still want to pursue a systematic technical major.
