Pork consumption is slowing down due to the long holiday.

In the northern market, the price of live pigs at the beginning of the week has not been adjusted and is still in a downward trend since last week. In localities such as Hanoi, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, the common price fluctuates from 67,000 - 68,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, in provinces such as Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh, the price continues to be around 66,000 - 67,000 VND/kg. According to predictions, the demand for pork consumption has passed the peak consumption period, so it will be difficult for the price to increase again.

In the Central Highlands region, the price of live pigs fluctuates from 67,000 to 74,000 VND/kg, of which only a few localities can maintain the price of 74,000 VND/kg, specifically Lam Dong and Binh Thuan, which are still maintaining the price of 74,000 VND/kg. This development is consistent with the general trend across the country when consumption demand begins to decline.

In the southern region, the price of live pigs today fluctuated between 73,000 and 74,000 VND/kg. Provinces such as Dong Thap and An Giang recorded a price of 73,000 VND/kg, while most other localities maintained at 74,000 VND/kg. Thus, the live pig market at the beginning of this week was relatively stable after the holiday, with prices fluctuating between 66,000 and 74,000 VND/kg nationwide.

According to some livestock experts, the price of live pigs has maintained an average of 70,000 VND/kg while the price of animal feed ingredients has decreased, bringing quite high profits to businesses and households. The problem encountered when re-herding is that the price of piglets is increasing sharply and there is a local shortage. Currently, the price of piglets in all regions of the country is high, fluctuating around 1.5 - 2.2 million VND/piglet weighing 7 - 10 kg, accounting for 30% of the production cost. Although the pig farming industry has shifted to large-scale farm farming in recent years, the problem of quality-assured piglets has not been resolved, leading to people having to buy floating piglets everywhere, spreading diseases and posing very high risks in the care process./.
