Currently, many Southern provinces are directing localities to urgently create the most favorable conditions to support farmers in completing the harvest of the Summer-Autumn rice crop in the face of forecasted prolonged thunderstorms and rising tides; at the same time, quickly completing the sowing of the Autumn-Winter crop.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra Vinh province, farmers need to quickly harvest the Summer-Autumn crop to proceed with sowing the Autumn-Winter rice crop according to the announced crop calendar ending before September 30. Farmers must comply with the crop calendar and proactively guard against unusual weather conditions such as rain, storms, high tides, etc.

In the Autumn-Winter rice crop, Tra Vinh farmers should use high-quality rice varieties that meet market requirements, are strong, resistant to lodging, resistant to pests and drought and salinity such as: OM 18, OM 4900, OM 5451, Dai Thom 8, ST 5, ST 24, ST 25...

As of September 12, according to data from the Department of Crop Production - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta have harvested 1.249 million hectares/1.469 million hectares of the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop with a yield of about 59.93 quintals/ha, and an output of 7.483 million tons of rice.

The 2024 Autumn-Winter crop has been planted on 597,000 hectares out of 700,000 hectares of planned area; along with that, localities have begun harvesting 28,000 hectares.

Regarding exports, Vietnam's rice export prices increased due to supply concerns due to flooding in some areas. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of 5% broken rice is currently at $567 per ton.

An export enterprise said that, in addition to the problem of storms affecting rice supply from now until the end of the year, the export contracts that enterprises have signed are very large, the export price of rice is signed at a low price, so the enterprise tries to wait to buy at a low price. However, after waiting for a while, the enterprise is forced to buy rice to pay for the signed orders with partners.

Currently, many businesses are worried about the source of goods for signed orders, so they are not too concerned about new orders.
