Garmin has just announced the expansion of the ECG App1 application on the epix Pro series, fēnix 7 Pro series, and Venu 3 series smartwatches.

This FDA-cleared app allows users to record their heart rate and check for signs of irregular heartbeat (AFib) directly from their smartwatch on their wrist. Users can use the app to record an electrocardiogram (ECG) for 30 seconds and view the heart rate results right on the watch or with the option to view them later in the Garmin Connect app on their smartphone.

“We are excited to bring the ECG app to more customers, including users of our flagship smartwatches like the epix Pro and fēnix 7 Pro series. Garmin is proud to offer premium health features across all of our smartwatches. Through this groundbreaking tool, our customers can conveniently record an ECG whenever they want, proactively monitoring their health at any time,” said Dan Bartel, vice president of global consumer at Garmin.

When users take an ECG, the ECG app uses the built-in sensors on their compatible smartwatch to record the electrical signals that represent the heartbeat. The app then analyzes that recording to detect signs of an irregular heartbeat. They can also sync the results to Garmin Connect, where they can view a history of their results and create reports that can be shared with their healthcare provider.

The ECG app is now available on the epix Pro series, fēnix 7 Pro series, and Venu 3 series smartwatches for customers in Vietnam and requires the latest version of the Garmin Connect smartphone app and smartwatch software before use. Garmin initially announced the ECG feature for customers with the Venu 2 Plus series in April.
