At the ceremony, Chairman of the Association of Revolutionary Soldiers Imprisoned by the Enemy in Quang Tri Province, Le Huu Thang, said that 53 years ago, on April 28, 1972, at Cau Dai in Hai Lang District, Regiment 1, Division 324 of the Liberation Army fought the enemy and fled from Quang Tri town. More than 200 political prisoners who were transported by the enemy to the southern provinces were liberated by the Liberation Army and returned to continue pursuing the enemy, completely liberating Quang Tri Province in 1972.

By 1975, our army fought hard and won big. Many prisoners of the US-puppet regime in the South were liberated or self-liberated, returned to continue participating in the revolution, building the country and homeland after the day of peace.

The struggle in the imperialist prisons was an integral part of the steadfast and indomitable revolutionary struggle of our entire nation. It was an extremely difficult battle of wits and strength in which patriots and communist soldiers, without weapons in their hands, were ready to accept sacrifice rather than submit to the savage and brutal torture of the enemy.

The images of political prisoners and patriotic prisoners will forever be shining examples to educate the tradition of patriotism and the indomitable revolutionary will for the young generations of Vietnam.

Meeting revolutionary soldiers imprisoned by the enemy on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the complete Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country is an opportunity to be proud of the past, to arouse national pride, solidarity, and to encourage each other to continue promoting revolutionary traditions to educate children and grandchildren to cultivate patriotism and revolutionary will for future generations, and to contribute to the cause of building the homeland and the country to become increasingly prosperous and happy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department Ho Dai Nam informed more about the goal of the new era - the era of national growth, by 2045 Vietnam will become a high-income country, 6 times higher than today.

To realize that goal, the central government has issued major policies to reorganize the political system from the central to the grassroots level; digital transformation becomes a new production method that strongly impacts production relations, creating breakthroughs in socio-economic development; implementing social security, exempting tuition fees for students, moving towards universal health insurance coverage...

For Quang Tri province, in recent times, key projects have been implemented to create breakthroughs to promote socio-economic development such as: My Thuy deep-water seaport, Quang Tri airport, QTIP industrial park... associated with the development of the East-West economic corridor through Lao Bao and La Lay international border gates.

Proud of the achievements of the homeland and confident in the new motivations and opportunities for development in the future, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Provincial Party Committee Ho Dai Nam hopes that with the heroic and resilient revolutionary tradition, the revolutionary soldiers who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy will continue to contribute their efforts to pass on and sow the flame of patriotism and steadfast revolutionary will for their descendants to inherit and shoulder the cause of protecting national independence and building the country and homeland today.
