According to information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, during the Lunar New Year holiday period of 2025 from January 24 to February 2 (from December 25, Giap Thin year to January 5, At Ty year), the number of passengers passing through airports nationwide increased (including passengers on transit flights and connecting flights at Vietnamese airports), 16% higher than the same period last year, with approximately 3.6 million passengers.

At key airports, the number of passengers increased compared to last year. Specifically, Tan Son Nhat airport reached approximately 1.38 million passengers (up 7.6%), Noi Bai airport reached approximately 900,000 passengers (up 12%), and Da Nang airport reached more than 381,000 passengers (up 26%).

In particular, during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, Tan Son Nhat airport served from 824 to 970 takeoffs and landings/day, with an average of 138,000 passengers/day.

The record day was January 24 (December 25), when Tan Son Nhat Airport operated 1,002 takeoffs and landings (up 10% compared to the same period in 2024), with 152,000 passengers (up 13% compared to the same period in 2024). This level of exploitation is also higher than that of Lunar New Year 2020.

Regarding the total passenger transport output of the entire market of Vietnam's aviation (arrivals and departures at Vietnamese airports) during the Lunar New Year 2025, it will reach 2.5 million passengers (up 17.8%); of which international passenger transport will reach 1.35 million passengers (up 23%); domestic passenger transport will reach 1.14 million passengers (up 12% over the same period in 2024).

Vietnamese airlines alone transported more than 1.67 million passengers (up 12.8%) and nearly 7,000 tons of cargo (up 4%).

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that the problem that emerged during some peak days of Tet was the situation of delayed and delayed flights. The main cause was unfavorable weather when fog and low clouds appeared at airports in the North, causing planes to be delayed in departure times, to circle around, to be late in return flights or to have to change airports to land, causing disruptions in transportation activities.

The second reason is airport infrastructure overload, which prolongs the time planes have to wait to taxi into the parking lot and onto the runway.

Tan Son Nhat Airport’s domestic terminal has begun to see a return of passengers after the crowded Tet holiday. Taxis and ride-hailing services at the airport have been asked to increase their fleet by 25% to meet passenger demand.
