On the afternoon of July 12, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center (Institute of Earth Sciences ) said that an earthquake had just occurred in Mang Den commune (Quang Ngai province).

Accordingly, at 10:25 this morning, in Mang Den commune, an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred, with a focal depth of about 8.1km.

According to Mr. Xuan Anh, this earthquake is assessed to not pose a natural disaster risk (level 0).

Currently, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences is continuing to monitor this earthquake.

Previously, on July 7 and 8, two earthquakes measuring 3.3 and 2.6 magnitudes also occurred in Kon Plong and Son Ky communes ( Quang Ngai province). These two earthquakes also did not pose any natural disaster risks.

From 2021 to present, hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in Quang Ngai (former Kon Tum province, concentrated in the former Kon Plong district), in which the earthquakes caused widespread tremors.

The largest was the earthquake at noon on July 28, 2024 with a magnitude of 5.0, before that on August 23, 2022 was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake.

Mr. Xuan Anh said that "triggered earthquakes" were the cause of earthquakes in recent years in Kon Tum province (formerly).

"According to preliminary studies, earthquakes in Kon Tum (old) are forecast to continue in the coming time but are unlikely to be greater than 5.5 magnitude. However, more detailed studies are still needed to assess earthquake activity in this area," said Mr. Xuan Anh.

Currently, the Institute of Geophysics is deploying 11 monitoring stations in Kon Tum (old), and conducting in-depth updated research to assess the level of earthquake activity in this locality.
