How thin is the iPhone 17 Air?

According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 Air will be thinner than the iPhone 6 and become Apple's thinnest iPhone ever.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be Apple's thinnest iPhone ever, measuring just 6mm thick, breaking the iPhone 6's record of 6.9mm. However, achieving this thinness will be a big challenge for Apple's engineers, especially as the company is having trouble with the battery substrate on the device.

The iPhone 17 Air will be three-quarters thinner than any iPhone 16 and 16 Pro model. Some customers are hoping for even thinner devices, but that's unlikely given the thinness of the battery and other components.

If the iPhone 17 Air does reach 6mm thickness, it will still be an incredibly thin and light iPhone compared to the increasingly "bulky" phones released over the years.

Earlier this year, Apple also launched the iPad Pro M4 model with an OLED screen, of which the 13-inch version is only 5.1 mm thick, becoming the company's thinnest device to date.

There are also conflicting rumors about the design and specifications of the iPhone 17 Air, but most sources suggest that the device will have a 6.6-inch display.

In July 2024, Apple supply chain analyst Ming Chi Kuo said he expected the device to feature the standard A19 chip, Dynamic Island, a single rear camera, and an Apple-designed 5G modem.

Many other experts expect the device to feature an aluminum frame, Face ID, a 24-megapixel front camera, a 48-megapixel rear camera, along with 8GB of RAM and Apple Intelligence.

Apple is likely to launch the iPhone 17 Air in September 2025. Therefore, all rumors at the moment are not completely accurate and may change over time.
