On the morning of November 16, the Southern Hydrometeorological Station reported that the Southern region is entering the peak high tide period of the 15th day of the 10th lunar month. In the past 24 hours, water levels at most stations in the downstream of the Saigon - Dong Nai river system have changed little and remained high.

As of 7:00 a.m., the highest water level measured at several stations exceeded alert level 3. Of which, Nha Be station (Dong Dien canal) was 1.66m, about 0.06m above alert level 3; Phu An (Saigon river) was 1.64m, 0.04m above alert level 3; Thu Dau Mot station (Saigon river) was 1.73m, 0.13m above alert level 3; Bien Hoa station (Dong Nai river) was 1.92m, 0.08m below alert level 2.

According to the Southern Meteorological Station, water levels at most stations in the downstream area of the Saigon - Dong Nai River are likely to change slowly in the next 1-2 days, then decrease again.

The highest tide peak in this period may appear on November 16-17 (ie October 16-17 of the lunar calendar), in which many stations measured on BĐ3,” the Meteorological Station warned.

In addition, Bien Hoa station at about 2-2.05m is approximately or 0.05m higher than BĐ2; Thu Dau Mot station at about 1.75-1.8m is 0.15-0.2m higher than BĐ3.

“This is a high tide period, which can cause flooding in low-lying areas and along rivers, affecting traffic and socio -economic activities in the Ho Chi Minh City area. The level of natural disaster risk in the downstream area of the Saigon - Dong Nai River is at level 2,” the Southern Meteorological Station noted.

Meanwhile, the Southern Institute of Water Resources Planning (SIWRP) also issued a warning bulletin, water levels at coastal stations in the Mekong Delta are currently at high levels and tend to continue to increase with the tide, water levels are generally at alert level 2-3 and in some places exceed alert level 3.

It is forecasted that in the next 10 days, water levels at stations in the East Sea coastal area will continue to rise and reach the peak of the high tide on November 17-18; for the West Sea, it will peak from November 17-19.

Due to the impact of high tides, the water level at some major stations in the central Mekong Delta region is generally above alert level 3 by 0.05-0.3m. Many areas in provinces and cities such as Can Tho City, Vinh Long, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau are deeply flooded.
