The 2025 academic transcript benchmark is sky-high, with many majors and schools reaching up to 29.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department, said that the expected standard score for transcripts is from 25 to 29 points. In 2025, the school will reserve 25% of its quota for transcripts out of 10,000 total quotas. In 2024, the school's highest standard score will also be 29, for the International Business major; Economic Law is the second highest with 28 points. Many other majors are at 26-27 points.

According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, the standard score of the transcript is high because the school has given a conversion function at 3 score ranges. At the range of 17-21, the transcript admission score = high school graduation admission score + 4. At the range of 21-25 points, the transcript admission score = high school exam admission score x 0.749 + 9.27. At the range of 25-30 points, the transcript admission score = graduation exam admission score x 0.398 + 18.06. Thus, if the graduation score is 17, the transcript admission score is 21, and if the graduation score is 26, the transcript admission score will be 28.4...

Mr. Pham Thai Son, Admissions Director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, informed that the expected high school transcript benchmark score for Logistics and Supply Chain is 26.66; Marketing is 26.5; Tourism is 25 - 25.5 for 3 subjects and the average score of grades 10, 11, 12. That is, each subject must have a total score of nearly 9 or higher to have a chance of being admitted. Compared to last year, when the highest transcript benchmark score was 25, this year it is up to 26.6, an increase of nearly 2 points.

However, according to Mr. Son, this is completely normal because the formula for converting high school transcript scores is different from the high school graduation exam results. For example, a high school graduation exam score of 24 is converted to a high school transcript score of 25.9 according to the percentile rule. In addition, because the C00 block score is very high, the school converts the C00 block score to be 1 point different from other blocks, and the D01 block score to be 0.5 points different from other blocks. For example, the Law major recruits blocks C00, D01, C03, C14, the expected standard score for block C00 is 24, and for the remaining blocks it is 23.

“Last year’s standard score was lower than this year’s because the score was not converted before. This year, because the admissions are conducted together, most universities will use the percentile formula to convert scores. Therefore, the high school score will definitely be higher than last year,” said Mr. Son.

In addition to the academic transcript benchmark, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade initially determined that the benchmark for assessing the capacity of Ho Chi Minh City National University is also higher than last year. In 2024, the maximum benchmark for assessing the capacity is 750 for the majors of Marketing, Logistics and Supply Chain, while this year it is expected to be 800 and 815.

Many other schools will also have high benchmarks due to conversion.

It is expected that high school transcript scores at many universities in 2025 will skyrocket due to the application of the score conversion formula.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, the benchmark score for considering the transcripts of students from 149 priority high schools and considering transcripts combined with international certificates with the graduation exam scores has the largest difference of 4.5 points in block D07; 4.1 points in block A01; 4 points in blocks A00, D01-03-06; X25-33-45; 2.5 points in block D14; 2.3 points in block X01; 2.2 points in block C00; and 2 points in blocks X78-86-98. In 2024, the benchmark score for transcripts of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law will be up to 27.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, the benchmark score is converted according to the score range of each subject combination between the transcript and the graduation exam, with a difference of 2.6 to 3.5 points. The lowest range of the transcript is 19.5-23.64, equivalent to 16-21.04 graduation exam points, the highest difference is 3.5 points.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry applies a conversion coefficient of 1.125. That means the standard score for the transcript review method is equal to the standard score for the graduation exam review method multiplied by 1.125. With this method, if the graduation standard score is 20, the transcript review standard score is 22.5, and if the graduation standard score is 25, the transcript review standard score is 28.1... That means the higher the graduation standard score, the greater the difference.

Meanwhile, at Van Lang University, the maximum difference between the transcript score and the graduation score is recorded as 5. Specifically, a graduation score of 22-29 will be equivalent to a transcript score of 26-30; a graduation score of 17-22 will be equivalent to a transcript score of 22-26; a graduation score of 15-17 will be equivalent to a transcript score of 18-22.
