Brief introduction about Quan Thanh Temple

Located on the shore of West Lake, Quan Thanh Temple is one of the oldest and most sacred spiritual structures in the capital. Located at 190 Quan Thanh Street, Ba Dinh District - a prime location only about 2 km from the Old Quarter, the temple is an indispensable stop on the journey to discover the thousand-year-old culture of Thang Long.

Quan Thanh Temple, also known as Tran Vu Quan, was built during the reign of King Ly Thai To (1010–1028) to worship Huyen Thien Tran Vu – the god guarding the North, one of the “Thang Long Tu Tran”. Through many historical ups and downs, the temple has been restored and preserved many times as an inseparable part of the capital’s heritage. In 1962, the temple was officially ranked as a National Historical Relic along with the neighboring Tran Quoc Pagoda.

Not only is it a unique architectural work, Quan Thanh Temple also preserves many mysterious legends. According to legend, it was here that Huyen Thien Tran Vu incarnated to help people destroy demons that were disturbing the Northern capital. The legends passed down through generations and the ancient system of steles further deepen the cultural and spiritual value of the temple in the hearts of the people and visitors.

Today, Quan Thanh Temple is still a unique spiritual and cultural meeting place in the heart of Hanoi - where the legendary past blends with the peaceful present, creating a sacred and ancient space for anyone who visits.
