Vietnam is making efforts to narrow the gap in dental care, from urban to rural areas, from plains to mountains and islands (Illustration: PN).

That reality requires the industry to take strategic steps, catch up with the development trend of science and technology , and at the same time meet the requirements of increasingly deep international integration. In particular, thoroughly grasp the spirit of shifting the focus from treatment to prevention, taking disease prevention as the root, taking primary care as the key.

The Deputy Minister suggested that the Vietnam Dental Association, training and research facilities and specialized hospitals focus on developing a comprehensive school dental program, protecting the young generation from preschool to primary school. The purpose is to make oral care a cultural habit, a healthy lifestyle of Vietnamese people.

The parties also need to prioritize research and practical application, focusing on common diseases such as tooth decay, periodontitis, and temporomandibular joint disorders. At the same time, in-depth development of implant techniques, orthopedic surgery, and cosmetic restoration.

Including the application of artificial intelligence, digital dentistry, 3D technology and robots; at the same time, building a national oral health database linked to electronic health records.

“We also need to focus on training and developing high-quality human resources, especially the young generation of doctors and dentists, building a fair, modern and humane dental service system, ensuring that all people benefit from scientific advances,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.

According to Associate Professor Binh, currently in the field of dentistry, many of our techniques have approached those of some countries in the region and the world, while the prices are affordable. Thanks to that, we have attracted many overseas Vietnamese and foreigners to Vietnam for medical examination and treatment.

In fact, currently the rate of people in our country who go for regular dental checkups is very low, only about 7%, so the rate of oral diseases is very high.

According to statistics in our country, over 85% of children have tooth decay, over 80% of adults have gingivitis, periodontitis. These diseases are the main cause of early tooth loss, affecting health. Meanwhile, if detected early, treatment will be less expensive, treatment effectiveness will increase.
