Just a few months ago, To Thi Vau and her son, Long Khang hamlet, Nam Tuan commune, were living in a dilapidated mud house that could collapse at any time. Although she is 80 years old, she and her son, who are in poor health, still have to struggle to survive each rainy and stormy season. Understanding that situation, the provincial police proposed that the Ministry of Public Security select Mrs. Vau's family as one of the households to receive support to remove temporary and dilapidated houses. With a budget of 30 million VND from the Ministry's fund and the synchronous participation of police units stationed in the area, in less than a month of construction, the new, spacious house was completed.
On the day she moved into her new house, Mrs. Vau was moved and held the soldiers' hands tightly as she shared: Thank you to the Party and the State for caring for my family, thank you to the police officers who braved the rain and sun to help my family build a house. I never thought of these things even in my dreams. With this house, my children and I no longer have to worry about storms and can work and produce with peace of mind, striving to improve our lives.
Not far from Mrs. Vau’s house is the family of Mrs. To Thi Nhung, in Long Khang hamlet, Nam Tuan commune. She is 70 years old, her eyesight is dim, and she has to use a bamboo stick to walk. Mrs. Nhung lives with her son in a dilapidated house with peeling walls and a leaky roof every time it rains. The provincial police promptly supported Mrs. Nhung’s family with part of the cost, labor, and materials to rebuild a sturdy house so that she and her son can have a better life.
Recalling the days of participating in building houses for Mrs. Vau and Mrs. Nhung, Major Ha Van Huong, Deputy Captain of the Mobile Police Team, Provincial Police, still has the same emotions: Despite the hardships of sun and rain, officers and soldiers always showed up early, participated in dismantling the old house, laying the foundation, transporting materials to build brick walls. The officers and soldiers worked with a high sense of responsibility. Looking at Mrs. Vau with tears in her eyes when walking around the new house, or Mrs. Nhung sitting on the porch, her eyes blurred but still trying to see all the corners of the wall, we understood and were proud of our work and responsibility when wearing this military uniform. Many officers and soldiers also voluntarily contributed funds to support especially difficult households, helping them have more conditions to stabilize their lives, gradually rising out of poverty. Maybe for others, that amount of money is not much, but for them, the hard-working people, it is warmth, a message that they are not alone.
Strictly implementing the direction of the Ministry of Public Security, from 2021 to July 2025, the Provincial Police mobilized 7,819 officers to support the construction and repair of 6,378 temporary and dilapidated houses for people. The police force contributed 8.4 billion VND, mobilizing an additional 3.4 billion VND from social sources to support the construction of houses, auxiliary works and purchase of essential items. In particular, the special emulation movement "180 days of participating in the implementation of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province", launched from April 1 to September 30, 2025, raised more than 1.2 billion VND to support the construction and equipment of auxiliary works and household items for households. In addition, the Provincial Police also mobilized more than 600 million VND, 591 working days, many tools and construction materials. Commune-level police contributed nearly 500 million VND to the Fund for the Poor to serve the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses... These numbers not only reflect the scale of contribution, but also show the sense of responsibility and close connection between the police force and the people.
According to the new target directed by the Prime Minister , the entire province must complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses before August 31, 2025, one month shorter than the original plan. In response to that requirement, the provincial police force determined to continue to promote its pioneering and core role. Actively and closely advise local Party committees and authorities to ensure the handover, reception, and coordination between the Steering Committees after the merger are smooth, continuous, and uninterrupted in supporting the people. At the same time, propagate and mobilize people to raise awareness, proactively participate in building and repairing houses; eliminate the mentality of waiting and relying on others. Increase human resources and means, directly participate in transporting materials, construction, and support people to complete their houses on schedule.
The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses not only helps people have solid housing, but also fosters trust and solidarity between the police force and the people. Each house built is a story, a journey of sharing and accompanying people to overcome difficulties. Up to now, thousands of poor households and policy families in the province have stable lives in new, sturdy houses. Behind each house is the image of police officers who are not afraid of hardship, exposed to the sun and rain, bringing their hearts and loyalty to build loving homes. The provincial police are determined to work with local Party committees and authorities to complete the target of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025, contributing to the successful implementation of the goal of sustainable poverty reduction, building new rural areas and most importantly, lighting up the belief in a brighter future for poor households in the mountainous border areas.
