In 2025, the total number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam is 1.16 million candidates. Of which, nearly 98% of candidates will take the exam under the 2018 General Education Program, the remaining 2% will take the exam under the 2006 General Education Program (about more than 26,700 candidates).

Candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program will take four subjects: literature, math, an optional test (natural science or social science) and a foreign language.
