Regarding the proposal to sink the Sheng Li ship to create a high-class diving spot in the Con Dao area (HCMC), the Department of Tourism has just sent a document with comments to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of HCMC.

Accordingly, after research and review, the Department of Tourism said it basically agreed to propose the Project to sink the Sheng Li ship to create a unique and high-class diving spot in the Con Dao sea area, helping to attract domestic and foreign tourists, as well as contributing to the development of green tourism, towards experiencing nature in Con Dao.

However, the Department of Tourism requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to survey, inspect, update, evaluate and forecast the sinking location with the planned water area and the potential impact of sinking the ship and serving tourism in the coming time.

"There needs to be a plan to monitor and update the quality of seawater, ensuring that it does not pollute surrounding areas, and that it does not affect the water of tourist beaches in the Con Dao special zone" - Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism suggested.

The above project was developed and proposed by Amadive Tourism Services Company Limited, and is currently being sent to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and related units.

Speaking to a reporter from the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper on August 10, a leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said that if this project is implemented, it could create a unique new product development model. In the world , the model of sinking ships to create diving tourism products to attract domestic and international visitors has been implemented, but Vietnam has not yet done so. If it is possible to build a new, sustainable tourism product, it also needs to be researched.

Create unique tourism products for Con Dao

As reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, according to Amadive’s project, the company proposed to sink the Sheng Li ship to create a unique and high-class diving spot in the Con Dao sea area. Amadive Company believes that the project will contribute to enhancing the tourism value in Con Dao.

"The shipwreck diving site will be a unique and different tourism product, attracting high-end customers, thereby creating more room for growth and creating better quality jobs for local people. The shipwreck will become an artificial coral reef, providing shelter and breeding ground for many marine species, contributing to enhancing biodiversity," said a company representative.

It is known that Sheng Li is a refrigerated cargo ship, built in 2002 with a width of 8.5 m, a length of 52 m, and an estimated tonnage of 12,000 tons. Currently, this ship is old, rusty, severely damaged, and unusable. The People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (old) has approved a plan to auction Sheng Li for the purpose of recovering scrap.

Sheng Li is currently anchored in a storm shelter for fishing boats in Con Dao. According to Amadive, the ship is notable for its large size, many compartments and cargo holds. If sunk, this ship will open up the potential for diverse and multi-level diving routes…
