The Myanmar government has called on the international community for support; many countries in the world and in the Southeast Asia (ASEAN) region have sent forces and means to help the Myanmar government and people such as China, Russia, India, Malaysia...
According to General Nguyen Tan Cuong, the Ministry of National Defense sent a working delegation of 80 officers and soldiers along with necessary equipment, materials, medicines, 6 service dogs, and many tons of goods to participate in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake in Myanmar.
80 soldiers were selected by agencies and units, and are the core force of the Ministry of National Defense's international humanitarian and disaster relief teams from: the Engineering Corps, military hospitals, Border Guards, the Department of Rescue and Search and Rescue, and functional agencies of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, and the General Department of Politics.
Among them, many comrades participated in supporting the Government and people of Türkiye to overcome the earthquake disaster in 2023; they demonstrated high determination, good sense of organization and discipline, good solidarity, proactively overcoming all difficulties to excellently complete the assigned tasks of the Vietnam People's Army in international integration and cooperation; leaving good impressions and feelings in the hearts of the Turkish people in the past and international friends towards the country, people, and Vietnam People's Army.
"The number of 80 soldiers sent to support Myanmar has a special significance. This year, our country is aiming to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day on September 2. Therefore, I chose this number instead of the original number 79," General Nguyen Tan Cuong revealed.
Complete preparation to go to Myanmar in less than 20 hours
The Deputy Minister of National Defense of Vietnam assessed that in just a short time (less than 20 hours), since being deployed and assigned tasks, agencies and units have thoroughly grasped and fully and thoughtfully implemented all preparations for each individual and each force component, in terms of ideology, spirit, force, organization, equipment, logistics and close coordination and cooperation with each other. That demonstrates a high spirit of initiative, a spirit of readiness to carry out tasks immediately in all conditions and circumstances...
General Nguyen Tan Cuong assessed that the political security situation in Myanmar is complicated, the consequences of the earthquake are very severe; traffic conditions, hot, sunny, harsh weather... will cause many difficulties for rescue forces, including ours.

Therefore, in order for the officers and soldiers to set out and complete their assigned tasks, General Nguyen Tan Cuong assigned Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Department of Rescue and Relief, to take command of the forces of the Vietnam People's Army participating in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake in Myanmar.
The Deputy Minister of National Defense requested Major General Ty to proactively contact the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar, the Vietnamese Defense Attaché in Myanmar... to organize forces and transport materials from the airport to the mission area safely and complete the mission.
"Deploy appropriate teams and groups, do not divide them into small groups to ensure safety; difficult and sensitive issues must be promptly reported and consulted with the Ministry of National Defense; issues that can be decided must be proactively handled by the commander on the spot because there are situations that only happen in a split second, if not handled promptly, the opportunity will be lost," said General Nguyen Tan Cuong and assigned the authority of "general on bail" to the commander of the force going to Myanmar for relief.
