A representative of the University of Wollongong (UOW) said that the school highly values Vietnamese students as well as their important contributions to the academic, social and cultural life of the school.

There are currently more than 1,000 Vietnamese students studying at the university, including at UOW College. The number of applications from Vietnamese students to UOW and UOW College for 2025 is also quite high.

UOW said that since September this year, the school has informed recruitment agents that it accepts applications from all regions of Vietnam, and each application will be considered individually.

According to a UOW representative, the University strictly adheres to the guidelines of the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs in maintaining regulations to ensure that only students with a genuine desire to study are allowed to enter the country, in order to support students with the ability to successfully apply for a visa. Over the past year, UOW has adjusted its admissions process to ensure it is consistent with current requirements of the Department of Home Affairs.

In August this year, UOW's partner study abroad companies received notice of some changes in the way they process applications for Vietnamese students, including the decision to stop accepting students from five provinces and cities.

Master Lu Thi Hong Nham, Director of Duc Anh Study Abroad Consulting and Translation Company, said that this unit received notice of the regulation to stop accepting students from 5 provinces and cities in August, but during the agent training sessions in September, it was updated that UOW still reserved seats for students from those 5 provinces in cases where they intend to study seriously, achieve good academic results, and have sufficient and transparent finances.
