American veterans contribute to healing the wounds of war, building the bridge between Vietnam and the US

On July 11 in Hanoi, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Dong Huy Cuong received a delegation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) led by Larry Rivers, former Commander in Chief of the VFW.

At the reception, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Dong Huy Cuong expressed his pleasure to welcome the delegation of the Association of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Vietnam - US relations (July 11, 1995 - July 11, 2025).

Informing the delegation, he said that a series of friendship exchange programs organized by the US Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam in coordination with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations are taking place in many localities across the country, aiming to spread the message of peace and cooperation to the community.

Mr. Dong Huy Cuong emphasized that over the past time, Vietnam and the US have made continuous efforts to heal the wounds of war and strengthen cooperation on the basis of peace and mutual respect. Vietnam appreciates the coordination and support from the US, including US veterans organizations, in the work of clearing mines and unexploded ordnance and searching for soldiers missing in action during the war.

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations regularly welcomes delegations of American veterans to visit, learn about the country and people of Vietnam, and participate in humanitarian and charitable activities. He highly appreciated the practical contributions of American veterans in healing past wounds and helping to overcome the consequences of war. According to him, the efforts of American veterans in Vietnam have inspired the younger generations of the two countries to continue to foster the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the US.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Larry Rivers affirmed that VFW will continue to contribute to the process of healing the wounds of war, especially in efforts to support the search for missing soldiers and the clearance of remaining bombs and explosives. He expressed his desire to strengthen coordination with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations in sharing information and connecting with relevant organizations and individuals in many localities across the country.
