Accordingly, the winning bidder is Quang Nam Traffic Construction Joint Stock Company. The package implementation period is 365 days, including weekends and holidays. The list of subcontractors includes Tan Tien Investment and Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company, which undertakes the construction of the upper structure items, other structures, dismantling and installing the lighting system on the bridge, ensuring traffic; Minh Chau Construction Design and Inspection Consulting Joint Stock Company undertakes the testing work, checking the quality of materials and construction quality.

The Department of Transport's leadership assigned the Infrastructure Management Department to announce the results of contractor selection on the national bidding network in accordance with regulations. The Quang Nam Transport Infrastructure Management Center (Department of Transport) is responsible for negotiating, finalizing, signing contracts with the selected unit and organizing the implementation of the bidding package in accordance with current state regulations.

Deputy Director of the Department of Transport - Mr. Tran Ngoc Thanh said, after signing the construction contract, the industry will request the contractor to start implementing the project after the National Day holiday on September 2.

Previously, on April 17, 2024, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu signed and issued Decision No. 947 on approving the adjustment of the total investment and approving the investment project to construct the old Cau Lau bridge repair project (on the old National Highway 1, connecting Dien Ban with Duy Xuyen). The total investment after adjustment is about 36 billion VND. The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Transport to be the investor.

The project to repair the old Cau Lau bridge aims to maintain the bridge's operational capacity, serving the travel needs of the people of Dien Ban town, Duy Xuyen district and neighboring areas. In particular, it aims to share the traffic volume of light-duty vehicles, motorbikes, and rudimentary vehicles that are currently passing through the new Cau Lau bridge to ensure traffic safety.

As reported by Quang Nam Newspaper, the old Cau Lau Bridge located on the old National Highway 1, across the Thu Bon River, was built between 1965 and 1970; its average lifespan is 80 years. After a long period of exploitation and extreme impacts of natural disasters, many parts of the bridge have seriously degraded, including the upper and lower parts. The bridge deck located on pier number 8 (from Dien Ban to Duy Xuyen) is sagging, the reason is that pier number 8 has sunk to a depth of 30cm.

Along with that, the sidewalk and handrail are damaged. The railing and the bottom of the sidewalk have exposed rusted steel reinforcement, some places have collapsed (at the 27th span from North to South) and are at risk of further collapse. Some spans have cracks along the center of the bridge, causing traffic safety problems. While waiting for repairs, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the relevant agencies and local authorities to ban cars from crossing the bridge to ensure traffic safety.
