On February 8 (29th of Lunar New Year), Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, visited and gave gifts to union members and workers in difficult circumstances at the self-managed workers' groups in the boarding house area of the Lien Chieu District Labor Federation.
Upon receiving the notice that the Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee would visit her rented room and wish her a happy new year, Ms. Poloong Tuyen (a Co Tu ethnic, a worker at Murata Manufacturing Vietnam Co., Ltd.) asked for a day off from work to wait.
Workers celebrating Tet away from home were moved when Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang (right) visited their boarding house and gave them Tet gifts.
According to Ms. Poloong Tuyen, this year is the first year she has not returned home to celebrate Tet with her family. Her mother passed away early, her father went to work far away from home on the farm, the family has 4 siblings, 3 older sisters are married, she came from Nam Giang District (Quang Nam) to Da Nang City to work as a factory worker to send money back home to help her father.
When the company was on Tet holiday, Ms. Tuyen applied for extra work at a beef noodle shop that sold during Tet to earn extra income, planning to return to work at the company on February 15 (January 6).
Receiving the gift from the City Party Secretary, Ms. Tuyen was moved: "I feel very sad not being able to return home for Tet, but I try to stay in the city to work extra to earn money. The care and Tet gifts from the Da Nang City government and the sharing of the landlord and the people in the boarding house have helped me ease my homesickness during Tet."

Losing her job near Tet, Ms. Tang Thi Coi (45 years old, from Quang Nam) is struggling as a single mother to raise 2 children.
Having lost her job, she sent her eldest child (17 years old) to relatives, taking care of only her 3-year-old child in a rented room. This Tet, Ms. Coi stayed in Da Nang City to find work during Tet to raise her youngest child and pay for her eldest child's tuition.
Visiting boarding houses in Lien Chieu District, the Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee asked about the employment situation, preparations for Tet away from home, and gave gifts, encouraging workers and laborers to overcome all difficulties and strive to improve their lives.
On this occasion, the Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee presented a total of 110 Tet gifts (each worth 1.3 million VND including gifts and cash) to union members and workers in difficult circumstances.
Workers were moved when receiving Tet gifts and lucky money.
Speaking at the gift-giving ceremony, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang expressed his sympathy for the difficulties and hardships of the workers.
The Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee said that in the situation where many businesses are still facing difficulties, cutting orders, and owing workers' salaries, although the city has provided timely support, workers' income and life are still difficult. The evidence is that at the Workers' Self-Managed Dormitory Group of the Lien Chieu District Labor Federation alone, more than 700 workers did not return home for Tet.
"Hopefully, workers will continue to overcome difficulties to contribute to businesses and the overall development of the city. I also acknowledge and commend the Da Nang City Labor Federation for having many activities to support workers' lives, especially those in difficult situations who cannot return home for Tet," the Da Nang Secretary shared.
