On July 1, Dak Nong province received an official announcement from the Department of Earth Sciences and Geohazard Mitigation under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) that Dak Nong Geopark had successfully passed the re-evaluation and was officially recognized as “Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark” for the new development period 2024-2027.

The decision to re-recognize the title of “Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark” is expected to be awarded to Dak Nong province at the International Conference on the Asia-Pacific Geopark Network held in September 2024 at Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, Vietnam.

Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark covers an area of ​​4,760 km2, spread over 6 districts and cities. It has a unique volcanic cave system, the longest in Southeast Asia, in which traces of prehistoric human habitation have been discovered. This is also a land of diverse cultures of more than 40 ethnic groups, part of the "Central Highlands Gong Cultural Space" - a masterpiece of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

According to Ms. Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Vice Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, the decision to recognize the title of UNESCO Global Geopark for the period 2024 - 2027 is not only a recognition of the efforts of the Dak Nong government and people in the work of preserving and promoting the overall value of heritage types, but also opens up opportunities to attract resources for sustainable socio-economic development.

“The story of the province when receiving the title again is to solve the recommendations of UNESCO. There are 41 points here with 3 tourist routes: Epic of Fire and Water, Echo of the Earth, and Symphony of the New Wind. Therefore, nature or that potential but people and services or everything need to breathe life into it to preserve and promote," said Ms. Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh.
