Poll results show 64% of workers reject proposal for 35% pay rise over four years.

The union's vote is aimed at pushing Boeing to offer better terms. Workers feel they have been treated unfairly by the company in previous negotiations, especially during the financial crisis.

Union leaders said they were ready to negotiate with Boeing, marking the first time talks have been reopened since 2014, when Boeing used the threat of a production shift to force workers to give up their traditional pension plans.

After the vote, leaders of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said: "After 10 years, we still have a lot of work to do and we hope to reopen negotiations quickly."

More than 30,000 mechanics have stopped working at Boeing factories on the US West Coast since September 13, leading to a halt in production of wide-body aircraft programs, including the 737 MAX, 767 and 777, the best-selling models.

The rejection of the deal was the second in a formal vote, after 95% of workers rejected the previous proposal last month, leading to a strike.
