On March 14, Mr. Bui Xuan Minh - Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health - said that he is waiting for an investigation to determine the cause of mass poisoning after eating chicken rice.

According to a quick report from the Khanh Hoa Department of Health as of 10:00 a.m. on March 14, medical facilities in the province received 195 cases of poisoning, 141 of which are currently being treated, the rest were prescribed for outpatient monitoring or discharged the same day.

At Saigon - Nha Trang General Hospital, Ms. Le Thi Ly Na (a tourist from Da Lat) said that her family often goes to Nha Trang city for tourism and often chooses Tram Anh chicken rice as a place to eat.

The group of 11 adults, 3 children and the driver all went to the chicken rice restaurant for lunch on March 11. While eating, they did not notice any unusual taste or color of the chicken, but by the afternoon of the same day, the symptoms of poisoning broke out, especially in the children.

According to Ms. Na, when her daughter and many others were hospitalized, they had a high fever and were unconscious. Now, the situation has gradually stabilized, the owner of the chicken rice restaurant has contacted the family to apologize and promised to pay all hospital fees.

Doctor Tran Phuong Thao - Deputy Executive Director of Saigon - Nha Trang General Hospital - said that as of this morning the hospital is treating 42 cases (32 are adults, 10 are children).

"Patients will be treated according to the Ministry of Health's protocol. Doctors will closely monitor the patient's condition and symptoms, such as antibiotic treatment and electrolyte balance. All hospitalized patients will have their samples taken to serve the investigation process to determine the cause of poisoning," said Dr. Thao.

Tram Anh chicken rice restaurant owner cannot present food purchase contract

According to the report of Nha Trang City Health Department when inspecting the restaurant on March 12 and 13, Ms. Le Thi Tram Anh, the owner of the chicken rice restaurant, was able to present a business registration certificate and a certificate of food safety eligibility. The owner of the restaurant was able to present 3/6 health certificates of the owner and employees working at the restaurant dated December 5, 2022 (expired).

However, the owner of the facility could not present the sales contract and other documents related to the food ingredients. The facility did not conduct three-step food inspection and did not store food samples according to regulations.

The inspection team sealed 4 freezers containing food at the facility.

The leader of Nha Trang City People's Committee also said that the Tram Anh chicken rice restaurant has been temporarily suspended from March 13 to serve the investigation process.
