Transforming from high-tech agricultural models

With more than 5,000 hectares of fruit trees, including many high-tech production models, the agricultural landscape of Mai Son commune has changed in recent years. To achieve these achievements, it is necessary to mention the efforts to re-plan the production area, while focusing on encouraging farmers to apply science and technology, gradually forming a closed and sustainable production - processing - consumption chain of the Party Committee, government and local unions.

Not only encouraging people to convert to new production models, the local government of Mai Son commune also actively propagates and mobilizes business organizations and cooperatives to participate in investment in production in the local agricultural sector. Thanks to that, up to now, in Mai Son commune, there are 48 cooperatives operating effectively, specializing in fruit trees such as mango, longan, custard apple, dragon fruit, strawberry, etc. Many high-quality crop varieties have been put into production such as Thai custard apple, durian custard apple, grafted longan, Taiwanese mango, Australian mango, green-skinned grapefruit, Dien grapefruit, star apple, red-fleshed dragon fruit.

Enterprises and cooperatives have larger investment resources than households and are better able to apply high technology to production, thereby significantly improving the productivity and quality of agricultural products, with the total fruit tree output of the commune reaching nearly 80,000 tons per year.

Some typical cooperatives such as Xuan Que Strawberry Cooperative, Anh Trang Cooperative, Me Lech Cooperative, Thanh Son Cooperative and Sub-zone 3/2 Cooperative recorded an income of 7 - 20 billion VND/year. The production value in high-tech application areas reached an average of 250 - 300 million VND/ha/year, many models showed outstanding efficiency compared to traditional farming.

In recent years, artificial pollination for custard apples has become a highlight in high-tech applications in Mai Son commune. Thanks to that, custard apple productivity reaches 13 - 17 tons/ha, bringing in an income of 400 - 450 million VND/ha. The Thai custard apple variety alone brings in outstanding value, from 600 million to 800 million VND/ha.

Not stopping there, Mai Son farmers have also successfully applied the technique of growing early-ripening strawberries, spreading the crop, helping the product to be available on the market all year round, selling for 200,000 - 250,000 VND/kg. Currently, the whole commune has more than 400 hectares of strawberries, of which about 40% of the area is cultivated in spreading the crop, contributing to stabilizing people's income and increasing product value.

According to information from the People's Committee of Mai Son commune, in the coming time, the locality will continue to plan agricultural areas focusing on applying high technology, developing organic agriculture associated with digital transformation; at the same time, promoting research and conversion of crop and livestock varieties with high economic value, suitable for specific climate and land conditions. The goal is to strive to increase the output of major crops to 102,000 tons/year by 2030.
