Mr. Nguyen Thien Tu also said that one of the practical contents of the orientation of the Youth Union's work until 2030 is to improve digital capacity for young people, with the expectation that 60% of young people nationwide will have access to and improve digital skills.
“Digital transformation is a challenge, but above all, it is also a wide-open opportunity for young people to move faster, break through, create new values; and contribute to the prosperity of the country in the near future,” Mr. Nguyen Thien Tu emphasized.
With that viewpoint, the leaders of the Center for Science, Technology and Young Talent Development believe that implementing the MOS World Championship in Vietnam is a practical task. Thereby, encouraging youth union members nationwide to promote the spirit of learning, practicing, improving qualifications and digital knowledge to serve the process of establishing a career, meeting the requirements of the times.
Affirming that the competition has become a useful digital technology playground for many Vietnamese students, Ms. Nguyen Van Khanh, Deputy General Director of IIG Vietnam, co-organizer of the MOS World Championship in Vietnam, said: In the 15th season, the competition attracted more than 2,000 contestants selected from nearly 200 teams from universities, academies, colleges and high schools nationwide.
“In addition to the school teams that have traditionally participated for many years, this year the competition welcomes teams from remote areas such as Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Long An, Vinh Long participating for the first time,” Ms. Nguyen Van Khanh added.
Immediately after the opening ceremony of the contest at the National Economics University (Hanoi), the national qualifying round took place simultaneously in all three regions, with testing locations in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
This year, the contest will be held in two versions: Microsoft Office 2019 and Microsoft 365 Apps. Each version will have three categories: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. For each category, the Organizing Committee will award one First Prize, three Second Prizes, five Third Prizes, 12 Encouragement Prizes, and one Promising Prize for the youngest contestant to participate in the national finals. The national champions of the contest will be awarded the “Creative Youth” badge by the Central Youth Union.
In addition, this year the Organizing Committee also considers awarding scholarships to candidates in the Northern midland and mountainous areas, the Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta - where IT learning conditions are still limited. This is to encourage candidates who have overcome difficulties to excel in studying IT.
Notably, after the national rounds, the Organizing Committee will select the 6 best young IT talents nationwide to be awarded the title of 'MOS Ambassador Vietnam'. These 6 candidates will qualify to compete in the world finals taking place at the end of July 2024 in Anaheim, California, USA.
The World Office Computing Championship has been organized by Certiport (USA) annually since 2002 for students aged 13 to 22. The competition aims to find and honor young talents in using office computing applications. Vietnamese students have started participating in the competition since 2010. In 14 years of participating in this competition, Vietnamese students have won 12 prizes in the world finals, with 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 12 bronze medals and many positions in the world's top 10. |
