Member of the Politburo, Chairman of the National Assembly, President of the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez is on a working visit to Vietnam from November 2-3.

Meeting with the President of the Cuban National Assembly, President Luong Cuong warmly welcomed Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez to return to work in Vietnam, just two months after the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam.

The President highly appreciated the significance of the visit and the results of the talks between National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez on the morning of November 2; he believed that the visit would contribute to strengthening the fraternal solidarity, special friendship, comprehensive cooperation and trust between Vietnam and Cuba.

The two senior leaders affirmed their determination to further deepen the exemplary Vietnam-Cuba relationship, which was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro Ruz and nurtured by many generations of leaders and people of the two countries.

The President sent his condolences to the First Secretary, President of Cuba and other high-ranking Cuban leaders on the consequences of storm Oscar on October 20 and the recent power outage in Cuba.

The President expressed his belief that the brotherly country of Cuba will continue to steadfastly overcome many difficulties and challenges, and achieve new achievements in the cause of protecting, building and developing the socialist country of Cuba; and congratulated Cuba on its important victory when the United Nations General Assembly on October 30 voted to pass a resolution demanding an end to the blockade and embargo against Cuba with a majority of votes in favor.

The President stressed that Vietnam wishes to deepen and further enhance the effectiveness of cooperation with the brotherly country of Cuba in all fields, making the most of the strengths of both sides, in the context that the two countries are looking forward to celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2025 (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025), which has been named the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year by the two countries' senior leaders.

National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his deep gratitude for the warm and thoughtful reception given to the Cuban National Assembly Delegation by the leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly and people of Vietnam, as well as by President Luong Cuong himself.

He affirmed that Cuba always treasures and appreciates the solidarity, companionship, sincere support and practical assistance that the Party, State, National Assembly and people of Vietnam have given to Cuba in recent times, especially in the fields of rice trade and food security, agricultural production development, investment cooperation, as well as at regional and international organizations and multilateral forums. National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez emphasized that Cuba is very interested in exchanging and learning from Vietnam's rich experience in the process of eliminating economic shortcomings and resolving current difficulties and challenges.

The two senior leaders agreed to actively and effectively implement the high-level commitments and agreements reached during the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2024, as well as the results of the first inter-parliamentary meeting of the two countries' National Assemblies; at the same time, continue to closely coordinate and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums.
